TPPs launch hunger-strike, urge Tamils to address UN double standards

[TamilNet, Saturday, 15 September 2018, 20:10 GMT]
A section of Tamil political prisoners languishing in the Anuradhapura prison has launched a hunger strike on Friday demanding immediate action from the larger Tamil society. While the SL President Maithiripala Sirisena is preparing to dignify the three armed forces of the unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka, Tamil politicians and the human rights community is mostly silent on the plight of Tamil political prisoners who continue to languish in the prisons of the SL State. The SL State should be condemned for trying to dignify its armed forces accused of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity while the Tamil political prisoners languishing in the prisons of the SL State are even refused of political prisoner status and are subjected to inhumane conditions, the prisoners at Anuradhapura said.

[TamilNet, Friday, 14 September 2018, 22:25 GMT]
The uprooted people from SL military occupied Valikaamam North in Jaffna are still languishing in 34 camps. Tamils confront Colombo by reviving deity rituals at threatened heritage-sites in Vanni

[TamilNet, Thursday, 13 September 2018, 22:01 GMT]
The Eezham Tamil villagers from Chemmalai-East in Mullaiththeevu and Nedungkea'ni in Vavuniyaa North have successfully marked ceremonial rituals for Hindu deities at two of their recently-threatened heritage sites in Vanni. The residents of Olu-madu and Muthiram-paddi villages in Nedungkea'ni staged a three-day long feast since Friday at Vedukku-naa'ri with broader participation and the villagers of Chemmalai in Mullaiththeevu marked a Pongkal feast on Monday at the Sinhala-Buddhicised Neeraaviyadi Pi'l'laiyaar temple. However, the extremist sections of the Sinhala Theravada Buddhist establishment, SL Archaeology Department and the occupying Sinhala military, remain emboldened through the military backing of the USA, Japan and India, particularly by the joint naval exercises that have taken place in Trincomalee in recent days, Tamil political observers in Trincomalee commented.

Eastern University massacre was premeditated crime, UN should investigate: families of victims

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 12 September 2018, 22:46 GMT]
Twenty-eight years ago, the occupying Sinhala Army of genocidal Sri Lanka, which brought a few so-called Muslim home-guards and Tamil paramilitary operatives, entered the premises of the Eastern University at Vanthaa'ru-moolai in Batticaloa and filtered away 158 young members among the thousands of Tamils, who had sought refuge at the premises of the Eastern University on 05 September 1990. The victims, identified by the masked men, were taken away by the SL Army that had brought two CTB buses with it to the premises. The victims were taken to Naavaladi in Vaazhaich-cheanai, where they were subjected to brutal torture before being hacked to death. The families of enforced disappeared, who marked the 28th remembrance of the traumatic event this month, blamed the SL State for persistent refusal to admit the premeditated arrests, the massacre and removal of skeletal remains of the victims.

Powers appeasing SL State risk future instability in the island: Gajendrakumar

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 11 September 2018, 22:12 GMT]
The Tamil people value the sacrifices made by their liberation movement with the highest respect. However, the SL State and its military show relentless intolerance against every attempt by the Tamils in the North-East to honour the sites of their destroyed monuments. The attitude is counter-productive, not only to the SL State but also to the global actors, who continue to appease the SL government, which refuses to reform itself, alluded Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, the leader of Tamil National Peoples' Front, in a recent interview to TamilNet. His comments come after witnessing the hostile acts of the SL military and the SL CID during the annual festival of Nalloor temple in Jaffna this month against the move to preserve the sacred nature of the memorial square of Lt. Col. Thileepan, who sacrificed himself in a fast-unto-death campaign in 1987.

[TamilNet, Friday, 07 September 2018, 22:55 GMT]
0Occupying Sinhala Army's 593 Brigade, which is having its headquarters at Naayaa'aru in Mullaith-theevu, silently brought in SL Archaeology Department workers on Friday morning in a move to put up border-stones to permanently grab lands for expanding a controversial, military-established Buddhist temple into a stupa establishment. The project also absorbs a traditional Hindu temple worshipped by Eezham Tamils at the heritage locality of Neeraavi-eattam, which lies sandwiched between Naayaa'ru lagoon and the sea. SL Military-hired land-surveyors also accompanied the group. They were carrying a letter that had been issued by one Kekulawala, a high ranking Survey Department official, three months ago. However, the move was vehemently opposed by the Tamil villagers, who confronted the group, chased it away and uprooted the GPS-fitted stones that were put by the group.

SL Police instructed to clarify authenticity of letter issued to monks by SL Archaeology Department

[TamilNet, Thursday, 06 September 2018, 23:39 GMT]
The SL Police in Oddu-chuddaan in Mullaiththeevu didn't act against the intruding group of Sinhala youth, led by two extremist Theravada Buddhist monks from South, who were blocked by the people of Kumuzha-munai on Tuesday. The people of the ancient Tamil village laid siege to the group that came with a Buddha statue and claimed it was authorised to do so by the SL Archaeology Department. How could the erection of a brand new Buddha statue be called conservation work and how come a religious group to engage in such action, was the question raised by the Tamil villagers, who interrupted the group on its way and turned it over to SL Police with demand for legal action against the intruders. However, the SL police released the group on the same day and attempted to file cases against the Tamil youth.

UN silence on Mannaar killing fields questioned, legal activists urge Bishops to act

[TamilNet, Sunday, 02 September 2018, 16:31 GMT]
The victims of Mannaar killing fields could be families that were fleeing from Peasaalai and other places to Tamil Nadu in India during the times of Eezham War II which lasted from 1990 to 1995, legal activists working with the enforced disappeared families told TamilNet on Sunday. Since there is a systematic pattern and the massacres seem to have been deliberately committed against unarmed civilians fleeing from the war zone, these are Crime Against Humanity of the first-degree according to any standard of the International Criminal Law, they said. The UN system, particularly the Geneva-based Office of the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR), well aware of Colombo's drive to dodge international forensic analyses of the exhumed human skeletons, also keeps mum, they complained.

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 29 August 2018, 22:48 GMT]

Sajith Premadasa's ministry revives Sinhala colonisation of Kevu'liyaa-madu in Batticaloa

[TamilNet, Saturday, 25 August 2018, 12:49 GMT]
SL Minister for Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa is creating ethnic disharmony in the district of Batticaloa by launching ‘model villages’ with housing and infrastructure, allege grassroots Tamil activists in Batticaloa. Similar to the controversial projects in Trincomalee district, the SL Minister, the son of the late SL President R. Premadasa, is creating conflicts by scheming one of the four ‘model villages’ in Batticaloa district at Kevu'liyaa-madu. The ‘model village’ projects have become places of ethnic tensions as Tamil-speaking Muslim beneficiaries were brought into traditional Tamil villages and Sinhala settlers into predominant Muslim and Tamil areas, civil sources in Batticaloa said.

0The Colombo-based Mahaweli Authority, which is the implementation agency coming under SL President Maithiriapala Sirisena's Mahaweli Ministry of the unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka, has recently allocated permit lands in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils to two main violent proponents of SL Navy backed Sinhala occupation at Kokku'laay in Mullaiththeevu.
