Militarisation of housing contract frustrates storm affected Tamils in Ampaa'rai North

[TamilNet, Monday, 23 April 2018, 18:49 GMT]
Tamil residents have expressed serious concerns over the occupying Sinhala military of genocidal Sri Lanka emerging as the contractor of reconstructing the roofs of a housing scheme with 684 apartments, which come under two village (GS) divisions in Periya-neelaava'nai of Kalmunai administrative division in the Ampaa'rai district, along the border of the Batticaloa district. The residents are in shock after learning that the apartments, initially constructed by the SL Foreign Ministry exploiting international funds in the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami catastrophe, are not strong enough to bear roofs of traditional tiles. The SL military contractors are now going to put up lighter roofing sheets, which are prone to wind suction during extreme weather, informed civil sources in the division told TamilNet.

Illegal logging accompanying SL militarisation threatens agricultural ecosystem in Moothoor East

[TamilNet, Sunday, 22 April 2018, 16:52 GMT]
Colombo's military and police are functioning as brokers for intruding woodcutters coming from other areas to collect timber by logging the trees in SL military occupied Tamil villages in Moothoor East of Trincomalee. The farmer's associations representing the resettling uprooted Eezham Tamils in Champoor, who are struggling to resume their lost agricultural livelihood, complain that recent deforestation has become one of the most severe problems on par with the militarisation of Moothoor East.

NPC Minister walks out as SL Governor ditches CM's recommendations on SLAS transfers

[TamilNet, Friday, 20 April 2018, 22:26 GMT]
The occupying unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka is bent on curbing the powerless Northern Provincial Council from carrying out its work through deploying the colonial Governor, who is controlling the army of SLAS officials serving the NPC in various positions. Be it a military governor or a civilian governor — regardless of the person being Sinhala Catholic or Tamil-speaking — it is the role of the SL Governor coming under the direct control of Colombo, which is causing headache to the elected Chief Minister who want to exercise the powers vested in him. The Tamil criticism target the underlying paradigm, commented Tamil political activists in Jaffna after witnessing the recent administrative disputes taking place between Justice C.V. Wigneswaran and Reginald Cooray, the SL Governor to North.

[TamilNet, Thursday, 19 April 2018, 21:15 GMT]
The Jaffna University Student Union (JUSU) has urged Eezham Tamils to mark May 18 Genocide Day as a Day of Uprising without deviating from its true spirit. May 18 is a day of remembrance as well as a day of Tamil national uprising, the JUSU said in a statement signed by its president and secretary on Wednesday. The political movements of Tamils world over should jointly mark the day under the symbolism of Mu'l'livaaykkaal Genocide Remembrance. The Tamil movements and the younger generation should inspire Tamils to be themselves on their own terms, the JUSU said.

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 17 April 2018, 23:31 GMT]
The SL Ministry of Resettlement, which has become a money laundering agent transferring foreign aid intended for resettlement to the consolidation of Sinhala militarisation in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils, twisted the figures of military-held lands in the Northern Province. The SL Ministry was manipulating the number as 11,528 acres, a District Secretary told TamilNet on condition of anonymity. The figure is only 18% of the total military occupied lands as registered by the provincial authorities, the source further commented.

Mano Ganesan challenged in Jaffna, politician complains of threat

[TamilNet, Monday, 16 April 2018, 20:02 GMT]
The SL Minister of so-called ‘National Dialogue’ Mano Ganesan, projecting himself as competing with Mangala Samaraweera in winning the hearts and minds of the Tamil diaspora [towards the Colombo-centric agenda promoted by certain foreign Establishments], has gone to the extent of threatening a Jaffna-based political activist this week. Mr Ganesan was visiting Jaffna this week on a propaganda campaign to promote the so-called ‘National Secretariat for Non-Governmental Organizations’ (NSNGO), also known as NGO Secretariat, which is trying to control the civil society, Community Based Organisations and local NGOs by creating ‘federations’ at district-level.

SL military brings back paramilitary violence to control peaceful protests as NGO tricks fail

[TamilNet, Friday, 13 April 2018, 23:18 GMT]
An unidentified operative with alleged paramilitary background violently threatened the mothers of enforced disappeared Tamils in Mullaiththeevu on Thursday when the protesters were marking 400 days of continuous protest. The agent, armed with a knife, entered the hut of the protest around 7:00 p.m., cut the main placard, destroyed a chair and smashed the simmering stock pots. He was pointing the sword-like knife at the protesters and demanding them to “end the protest once and for all”. 47-year-old Eeswary Mariyasuresh, the chairperson of the protesters told TamilNet that the forces who want to stop their protest have resorted to deploy violence and target those who come forward to give leadership to the protesters. She survived a targeted assault on her also in August 2017. There is a pattern of SL military intelligence taking over the containment process from Colombo-centric NGOs.

Fisheries society cautiously welcomes Court decision on fishing access to Naayaa'ru Tamils

[TamilNet, Monday, 09 April 2018, 11:40 GMT]
After dragging the case, filed by the intruding Sinhala fishermen against the rights of native Tamil fishermen accessing Kokku'laay fishing coast, for two years the courts in Mullaiththeevu has finally instructed the Divisional Secretariat to demarcate new points of access separate from those used by the Sinhala fishermen along the coast between Naayaa'ru and Mukaththuvvaaram on Friday. While welcoming the belated decision by the SL Court, St. Antony's Fisheries Society leaders, who have been defending the rights of Tamil fishers to the coast of Naayaa'ru, questioned the ability of the civil authorities to implement the decision. A similar instruction given by the Courts earlier was not respected, and the intruders went to the extent of filing yet another case. Until Tamil leaders manage to put an active end to the ongoing Sinhala occupation, the struggle will continue, they said.

[TamilNet, Sunday, 08 April 2018, 23:28 GMT]
The militarisation of pre-schools is a form of child soldiering, Northern Provincial Council Minister of Education K. Sarwesvaran told TamilNet in an interview this week. Out of 12 educational zones coming under the NPC, there are SL army run pre-schools in 6 zones. There 294 schools with 553 teachers with 6,020 children. The NPC Education Minister characterised the military operation of pre-schools as a serious crime on the part of the SL Defence Ministry and the SL Government. They are upbringing the [Tamil] children under their [Sinhala] military culture, discipline, philosophy and thoughts, he said.

Muslim politicians block relocation of SL military base in Batticaloa

[TamilNet, Saturday, 07 April 2018, 21:34 GMT]
The occupying Sinhala military in Batticaloa is under pressure to abandon its plan of relocating one of its artillery bases 18 km north of Batticaloa city as the Tamil-speaking Muslim villagers have been protesting against the move and their politicians have taken the issue seriously with the Colombo regime, informed sources in Batticaloa said. Rauff Hakeem, a cabinet minister in the SL government and Ali Zahir Moulana, an SLFP parliamentarian from Ea'raavoor, have been exerting pressure on the Colombo government against the planned military base at Punnaik-kudaa. Mr Hakeem seems to have managed to stop the move after making it as one of his key demands in the dealings with SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe before extending his support against the no-confidence motion in the SL Parliament, the sources further said.

NPC finally awakens against SL Mahaweli Authority obstructing territorial integrity of Tamil homeland

[TamilNet, Friday, 06 April 2018, 06:35 GMT]
The Northern Provincial Council has discussed the genocidal land grab choking the territorial contiguity of the traditional homeland of Eezham Tamils in the North-East of the island in a special sitting on Thursday. The move comes after years of reports highlighting how SL President Maithiripala Sirisena has been committing a systematic genocidal land grab and demographic genocide against Eezham Tamils through the so-called Mahaweli development ministry since 1997, when he took control of the department for the first time. The NPC finally seems to address the precarious issue in a proper context. However, it remains to be seen whether the NPC and the Tamil leadership are prepared to declare all Sinhala colonisations in the North and East that took place after 1956 as illegal, commented Tamil academic circles in Jaffna on Friday.

Making decisions rooted in native political space

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 03 April 2018, 23:25 GMT]
The binary choice in Colombo-centric politics will always be between the devil and the deep blue sea as far as Eezham Tamils are concerned, commented Tamil political activists in Jaffna observing the latest happenings in the North as well as in the South. Eezham Tamils should not conceive their central political space succumbing to the electoral politics of the genocidal unitary system, which is promulgated by the Mahawansa-mindset and the international injustice sustained by geopolitical manoeuvrings. The Tamil-speaking people should instead invest their efforts on evolving a native and unified political space centred in the North-East with the diaspora, Tamil Nadu and global solidarity dimensions which extend beyond their territorial boundary, they said.

Maj. Gen. Duminda KeppetiwalanaJaffna High Court Judge Manickavasagam Ilancheliyan on Monday gave green signal to proceed with the cases of habeas corpus seeking a senior commander of the SL Military to produce three of twenty-five Tamil youth, whose whereabouts are not known after the SL Army at Naavatkuzhi detained them 22 years ago in 1996. The SL Police instructed by the Judge to investigate the case stated that it was impossible for them to investigate the case as more than 20 years have elapsed since the disappearance of the victims. The first respondent is Major General Duminda Keppettiwalana, who commanded the Sinhala soldiers of the military camp at Naavatkuzhi in 1996 when he was a captain. He has been systematically protected and promoted by Sarath Fonseka, the former SL Army commander and a partner of the current regime in Colombo.

Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake, the commander of the occupying Army of the unitary State of genocidal Sri Lanka, was ‘reminding’ the families of uprooted people that the SL military was in a position to take back whatever being released to the public. Mahesh Senanayake told the recipients of 25 houses, which were built by the SL military at the so-called ‘Village of Reconciliation’ (Nalli'nakka-puram) on Friday that it was the duty of the recipients of the housing scheme to bring up their children without recourse to a bitter war as in the past. Otherwise, the military was in a position to take back what it was giving, he said. When the Tamil interpreter was reluctant to translate the intimidating statement, he repeated the message to the translator, making sure his warning gets translated from Sinhala to Tamil to the target audience.

8 Tamil workers quit, ethnic harassment at SL State-run Coconut Garden in East

[TamilNet, Friday, 30 March 2018, 22:32 GMT]
Eight Tamil workers at Paasikkudaa Coconut Model Garden have quit their jobs unable to tolerate the harassment meted out on them by the Sinhala-controlled management of the SL State-owned garden, which comes under the Batticaloa Regional Office of the Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB). The Sinhala administration of the CCB office in Batticaloa and its Paasikkudaa Garden management have moved on to appoint Sinhala workers to the positions of the permanent cadre after successfully evicting the Tamil workers from the garden. Only two of the positions have gone to a Tamil and a Tamil-spaking Muslim. The Sinhala officials have stepped up harassments on the Tamil workers since 2015 with the hidden agenda of evicting them from the Model Garden. A co-worker, who was previously a military soldier, was also deployed against them, the Tamil workers who have quit their jobs told TamilNet on Friday.

SL Navy erects new buildings in occupied Moohoor East

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 27 March 2018, 23:26 GMT]
SL Navy is continuing to put up new buildings and bunkers within the lands it has seized from Eezham Tamils in Moothoor East of Trincomalee. Initially, the SL Navy wanted only 40 acres of private lands for its naval training base named Vidura, but then expanded its occupation covering more than 3,500 acres of public lands of Eezham Tamils. Now the SL Navy is planning to put up resorts for Sinhala tourists as Buddhist extremist monks have started to claim the places of worship of Tamils with ancient Tamil heritage as sites belonging to occupying Sinhala Theravada Buddhism. In the meantime, the U.S. Pacific Command is grooming the occupying SL Navy with a marine training programme in Trincomalee under the notion of 'military-to-military' engagement with the unitary State of genocidal Sri Lanka.
