5000 Lion flags sent to Jaffna

More troops sent to Vanni

Sources in Vavuniya said today that a large number of troops are being sent to the 'Jayasikurui' front from last week. They were, however, not able to ascertain whether the induction of soldiers is connected to the major operation to achieve the link up between the troops of Operation Jayasikurui and the SLA base in Kilinochchi before February 4, 1998, the fiftieth anniversary of Sri Lanka's independence.

Monsoon lashes Vanni

Heavy rain bursts tank bunds

The Vannerikkulam tank in the western Vanni burst its bunds as rains continue to wreak havoc in the northern jungles regions. People living in Akkarayan, Konavil and Skandapuram have been affected by the floods from the tank which might submerge some inner roads if the rains do not cease soon say residents.
