NGO activist in Jaffna urges Tamil diaspora to be vigilant on Colombo-centric manipulations

[TamilNet, Monday, 19 June 2017, 17:05 GMT]
NGO Secretariat functioning under SL Minister Mano Ganesan is a smoke screen operation of the Colombo-centric discourse seeking to suppress and manipulate the civil structures in the North and East. The so-called ‘National Secretariat for Non-Governmental Organizations’ (NSNGO), also known as NGO Secretariat, is trying to control the local civil and NGOs by creating ‘federations’ at district-level while SL Prime Minister's office seems to exercise full control over the outfit, says Vijayaratnam Kesavan, a civil rights activist in Jaffna. The NGO secretariat is being deployed during the last three months to eliminate the already compromised independency of NGOs and the civil groups in the North-East, he said, criticising the move to create NGO federations at district level while there are already well-functioning independent coordination mechanisms in existence for the last 25 years.

Colombo regime, West-funded CEPA, ITAK minister behind causing disunity in NPC

[TamilNet, Sunday, 18 June 2017, 21:04 GMT]
There has been a systematic move by Colombo regime, particularly its foreign ministry, health ministry and the NGO outfits such as the Center for Poverty Analysis (CEPA), causing a division within the NPC by making its Health Minister Dr P. Sathiyalingam to collaborate along a Colombo-centric line of engineering so-called ‘development’, said Vinthan Kanagaratnam, an NPC councillor in an interview to TamilNet on Sunday. The move also aimed to divert external assistance to other provinces, particularly the North Central Province. The same move also seeks to involve sections of the Tamil diaspora, he said. NPC Health Minister was operating secretly, circumventing the routines and the democratically constituted NPC mechanisms. ‘Advisors’ appointed by Mr Sathiyalingam to his ministry and sections of the ITAK, are also complicit in the engineering of divisions, Mr Kanagaratnam further said.

Time is running out for ITAK to re-orientate itself to basic fundamentals of Tamil struggle

[TamilNet, Saturday, 17 June 2017, 22:30 GMT]
The guarantees and promises given so far by R. Sampanthan on crucial matters such as de-militarisation, resettlement, tracing the enforced disappeared, international investigations and on achieving a federal solution have not been materialised. The Eezham Tamils in the North-East are losing faith on Opposition Leader. Instead, the Tamil people look upon Justice Wigneswaran as their leader, said Suresh Premachandran, the leader of the EPRLF, one of the constituent parties of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA). Three of the four parties comprising the TNA stand with Wigneswaran. Tamil people have delivered their message to the ITAK through the shutdown and agitations in Jaffna, Ki'linochchi, Mullaiththeevu and Vavuniyaa. There was also much support coming from Eastern province, the former TNA parliamentarian told TamilNet on Saturday after a joint meeting with Justice C.V. Wigneswaran.

Jaffna at standstill, people rally at Nallloor in support of Wigneswaran

[TamilNet, Friday, 16 June 2017, 07:41 GMT]
0More than 2,000 Eezham Tamils, most of them students, gathered in front of Nalloor temple and marched towards the nearby residence of NPC Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, expressing their solidarity with him on Friday morning. The protesters condemned Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK), the main constituent party of the TNA for conspiring with the Colombo’s ruling sections in a move to oust Justice C.V. Wigneswaran from the position of Chief Minister. The peaceful rally received active support from Jaffna University Teachers Association and student groups. In the meantime, all the government offices were brought to a complete standstill and the private businesses remain closed in Jaffna and elsewhere in the North, observing a successful shut-down.

Justice Wigneswaran vows to stay the course despite attempts to oust him

[TamilNet, Thursday, 15 June 2017, 23:37 GMT]
NPC Chief Minister Justice Wigneswaran on Thursday said that he was not being deterred from continuing his work and service to the people of Northern Province. His comments came after hundreds of Tamil students gathered outside his office expressing their solidarity with him. “I was a silent observer elsewhere [before being elected as the CM] unconcerned about what was taking place here. I hardly knew that the people had so much of love for me, and expectations from me. Despite my age, it is my duty to reciprocate what they have been showing. Today was an eye-opener with so many people coming over and showing their love. It is my duty to continue to serve the people wherever they are to the best of my ability,” Justice C.V. Wigneswaran said.

NPC plunges into crisis as external agenda-backed forces challenge Wigneswaran

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 14 June 2017, 23:35 GMT]
Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK), which is the main constituent party of the TNA, engineered a move of no-confidence against NPC Chief Minister Justice C.V.Wigneswaran on Wednesday. A considerable number of councillors submitted the request, just a few hours after Justice Wigneswaran instructed two of his ministers, subjected to investigations to resign, and asked two other ministers to go on compulsory leave until the investigation on them is completed. Bringing the four ministries under Chief Minister's purview, the NPC CM said he was answerable to the people who had entrusted him with the task of leading the NPC. TNA parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran has been involved in creating, managing and finally deploying the move as an opportunity to force Wignewaran and his genre to retire from politics. However, Wigneswaran remains calm and restraint, news sources in Jaffna said.

Deeds, not mere words, count: Families of enforced disappeared

[TamilNet, Monday, 12 June 2017, 21:14 GMT]
The representatives of the families of enforced disappeared from the 8 districts in the North-East, who met the SL President Maithiripala Sirisena at SL Governor’s office in Jaffna, told media after their meeting with Mr Sirisena that they would continue their protests until the SL President fulfills what he had assured them on Monday. “The protest continues for the 114th day and we want to see SL President fulfilling what he promised us today. He loudly read out our demands and said he agreed with all of the demands and promised to instruct the three armed forces at the security council meeting on Tuesday evening to act upon them,” Kanagaranjani Yogarasa, who represented the protesting families from Ki’linochchi district told TamilNet.

Netherlands-funded CEPA project wages political ‘counter-insurgency’ on Diaspora, elected NPC

[TamilNet, Thursday, 08 June 2017, 23:06 GMT]
0The occupying Colombo and its global backers have charted a comprehensive deceptive programme, which facilitates continued structural genocide in the North-East through a common ‘development’ programme approaching Tamil-speaking Northern and Eastern provinces together with the adjacent Sinhala-speaking North-Central province. A Colombo-based NGO outfit, Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA), is tasked to recruit gullible and opportunistic sections of the diaspora expanding Rajapaksa-time ‘KP-Diaspora’ programme. The CEPA, led by Sinhala academic cum consultant Udan Fernando, has been almost ‘spying’ on Tamil diaspora with the support of the Foreign Ministry of Netherlands so far. The CEPA was also trying to deceive the NPC. But, the NPC's governing body has identified the agenda behind the project. Citing its ‘interaction’ with the NPC, the CEPA is now trying to deceive the Tamil diaspora.

Colombo eliminates NGO independency in North-East through Mano Ganesan's SL Ministry

[TamilNet, Monday, 05 June 2017, 23:16 GMT]
The so-called SL Ministry of ‘National’ Co-existence, Dialogue and Official Languages, which is being run by Mr Mano Ganesan, is currently deployed by the unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka to deceive the civil society and the community-based organisations (CBOs) in the North-East as well as those engaging with the organisations in North-East from outside the island. The ‘National Secretariat for Non-Governmental Organizations’ (NSNGO), brought under Mano Ganesan's ministry two years ago, is now in full swing to get the CBOs and independent NGOs in the North-East to fall in line with the Colombo-centric agenda of the genocidal unitary State and the external Establishments that operate the agent State in Colombo.

IMF agenda, new SL Finance Minister to manipulate Diaspora Tamils

[TamilNet, Sunday, 04 June 2017, 23:12 GMT]
The advisors of the International Moneteray Fund (IMF) and the World Bank were instrumental in allowing the genocidal State of Sri Lanka to wage the onslaught on Vanni in 2009. This was clearly exposed by an email exchange dated 04 May 2009, which was between the then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and one of her key political consultant Burns Strider. The same IMF has now determined who is to be the Finance Minister in the island. This is part of an unwritten and unspoken condition from the deliberations between the IMF and the genocidal State as part of a three-year Extended Fund Facility arrangement, informed circles in Colombo told TamilNet this week. As part of the secret deliberations, the Colombo Establishment was under extreme pressure from the external quarters attached to the IMF to install Mangala Samaraweera as Finance Minister.

100th day protest demanding answers on enforced disappeared shocks Colombo, Sirisena exposed

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 30 May 2017, 23:04 GMT]
0The 100th day of continues protests by the families of enforced disappeared Tamils was marked at Ki'linochchi on Tuesday with more than 1,000 people attending the protest. The protesters were blocking the A9 Highway demanding SL President Maithiripala Sirisena to come and meet them in person with a time-bound answer on the whereabouts of their kith and kin, who were handed over to the occupying Sinhala military of genocidal Sri Lanka at the final days of the onslaught in May 2009. The SL Establishment caught in shock has asked for 2 weeks of time for a meeting through SL Governor Reginald Cooray in North. But, the hidden agenda of Colombo was again exposed as Mr Cooray went on record at a press conference stating there will be no response other than the offer of ‘certificate of missing person’ and monetary assistance to the families.

Draconian laws used to suppress key grassroots activists in Tamil Nadu

[TamilNet, Monday, 29 May 2017, 21:12 GMT]
Thirumurugan Gandhi, the convener of the May 17 Movement and Daison Jose, the leader of Thamizh Vidiyal Kadchi, its District Coordinator Ilamaran and activist Arun, have been detained under the so-called ‘Goondas’ Act in the Tamil Nadu State in India. The activists were initially detained on May 21 when they organised a peaceful candle vigil to remember the Eezham Tamils who perished in the genocidal onslaught on Tamil Eelam in 2009. It is widely believed that the New Delhi Establishment, which is proxy meddling with the affairs of Tamil Nadu following the demise of the late Chief Minister Ms Jayalalithaa, is behind the suppressive move through the Police in Tamil Nadu. The Goondas Act is a draconian law that stems from the times of the British colonialism.

Islamophobic monks from Myanmar visit genocidal Buddhist project in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Saturday, 27 May 2017, 23:40 GMT]
0A section of Theravada Buddhist monks from Myanmar (Burma), who are opposed to Rohingya people in their country, were seen as part of a delegation comprising South-East Asian and Chinese monks visiting Nayinaa-theevu islet off Jaffna on Saturday. The genocidal ‘Sri Lanka’ Navy is now engaged in Sinhala-Buddhicisation of the islet and is pushing for the controversial move of constructing a 67-feet Buddha statue, completely disregarding the objections from the people of Jaffna peninsula, their democratic civic bodies and even the sections of officials employed in the civil service of Colombo government. The Sinhala-Buddhicisation project should also be seen as a systematically conceived military cum demographic security threat against Tamil Nadu, India and the entire region in the long run, political observers in Jaffna said.

SL military disregards civic ban, continues construction of Buddhist vihara in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 24 May 2017, 23:45 GMT]
The occupying Colombo recently launched the construction of a Buddhist vihara at Naavatkuzhi, which is being Sinhalicised through militarisation and housing schemes for Sinhala colonists. During the Vesak in May 2017, ceremonial construction of a big Vihara establishment was begun. On Tuesday, Chaavakachcheari Divisional Council came with an interim order instructing those engaged in the construction of Buddhist vihara to halt all construction activities as permission to construct the Buddhist Establishment has not been properly obtained from the local body. However, SL Army personnel continued the construction work disregarding the instructions from the civic body, sources in Naavatkuzhi said.

Tamil POWs reject SL deceptive offers to testify against inmates in exchange of amnesty

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 23 May 2017, 17:29 GMT]
Sinhala police and prison officials of occupying Colombo are trying to deceive some of the Tamil political prisoners to testify against the inmates, say Tamil prisoners in Colombo Magazine prison. The cases of almost all of the so-called ‘Prevention of Terrorism Act’ (PTA) detainees are based on forced confessions obtained under torture by the so-called ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division’ (TID) or the SL Police. As the judges of the courts situated in the North-East would dismiss the use of such confessions as evidence, SL Attorney General’s Office in Colombo has been transferring the cases away from the courts in North-East to special courts in the South.
