Sri Lankan government denies report on dismantling LTTE camp

Sri Lanka's Defence Ministry Wednesday categorically denied reports carried by a section of the media, quoting the Defence Secretary, Mr. Austin Fernando, as saying that military force would be used if the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam failed to dismantle the controversial Kurankupanchan camp in the Trincomalee district.

SLMM denies media reports on removing LTTE's camp

The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission on Wednesday said that some media had misquoted its acting head, Mr. Hagrup Haukland, on Tuesday and Wednesday, on the possibility of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces using force to remove the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam camp in Kurankupanchan in the Trincomalee district, re-emphasizing that the SLMM had not made even “the slightest suggestion of using force" and the parties should continue to use "negotiations and dialogue to solve their disputes."

Thamilchelvan, had arrived at Sampur in the LTTE held Muttur east and was holding discussions with his cadres about dismantling the Kurankupanchan camp, the Trincomalee district political office of the LTTE told TamilNet that its Kurankupanchan camp is still located at the same place without any change, and the report was completely false.

In a cogently argued critique of Colombo’s efforts to formulate a federal concept as the basis for a solution to the conflict, Mr. Silva said, “One wonders whether for Sri Lanka federalism is that beguiling serpent, which by its fatal sting will bring about the death of the Republic”.

NECORD replaces school building destroyed by SLN

Slow progress in supplying electricity to Omanthai
