One killed, another injured in Mannar shooting incident

Gunmen Monday night around 10.30 p.m. attacked the Special Task Force sentry point at Semmankulam located along Mannar-Madawachchi road. In the retaliatory fire by the STF one person was killed and another injured, Mannar Police said.

Mannar civilians again flee to South India

The Sri Lanka Navy Monday night around 7:30 p.m. arrested 12 persons of three families including three children who were hiding in a bush along the Mannar sea shore waiting for a boat to leave to Tamilnadu state in South India to seek refuge. All of them were handed to the Talaimannar police Tuesday morning around 11:00 a.m by the Sri Lanka Navy. SL policemen in Pesalai recently warned civilians to leave their houses from Pesalai.

STF infiltration repulsed, one Batticaloa Rural Force Member killed

A member of the LTTE's Rural Force of Kovil Porathivu was killed at 12:20 a.m., Sunday, when the LTTE confronted members of Special Task Force(STF) attempting to infiltrate LTTE Forward Defense Lines (FDL) in Paddiruppu, Batticaloa, P.Thayamohan, the political head of the LTTE, Batticaloa District, said. The LTTE repulsed the attack by the STF. Sangarapillai Rajmohan, 18, died in the confrontation.

SLAF Kfir jets bomb Vaakarai, 2 civilians wounded

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir jets bombed thrice Mavilaru in Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled Vaakarai region in Trincomalee district Wednesday between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Two civilians, wounded in the bombing were rushed to Eachilampattu hospital, medical sources said. The wounded civilians were from Thonithandamadu, located close to Mavilaru, located in Serunuwara division. Two houses were destroyed in SLAF bombing, according to S. Elilan, LTTE's Trincomalee District Political Head. Colombo has chosen, according to SLAF spokesperson, to bomb the area following a dispute over water supply from Verukal river.

Two persons shot dead in Vavuniya

Magistrate rules Sathurukondan deaths were murders

An inquest into the deaths of two abducted men from Sathurukondan was held before Acting Batticaloa District Magistrate, Vinobha Indran, on Wednesday evening. The men, Murugesu Sivakumar, 24, and Satkunam Suthakaran, 33, were separately abducted from their homes in Sathurukondan on Sunday and were shot dead on Wednesday at Paalameenmadu, allegedly by paramilitaries working with the Sri Lankan Armed forces. The magistrate ruled that both deaths were murders, legal sources said.

Three Tamil auxilliaries wounded in DPU Claymore attack

The Claymore attack was reported at 11:45 a.m. Thursday.

Police recovered the dead body, riddled with 11 bullets from a T-56 automatic rifle, and identified the victim as Arumugam Kalakaran, 23.

12 Sri Lankan troops, 4 Tigers killed in Vakaneri, SLA trooper captured

0At least 12 Sri Lankan troopers were killed when Liberation Tigers confronted a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) unit, comprising at least 100 soldiers, that had moved 5 km inside LTTE controlled territory in Batticaloa district. Four LTTE cadres were killed and six wounded in the fighting in Vakaneri, 37 km northwest of Batticaloa town. The bodies of twelve SLA soldiers were recovered by the Tigers, P. Dayamohan, the Batticaloa district LTTE political head told TamilNet. One Lance Corporal of the SLA has been captured alive by the LTTE. SLA sources in Colombo claimed that a group of SLA soldiers who were on a search and clear operation have gone missing in Vakaneri.

A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was killed in a claymore explosion in Pirappamadu area in Vavuniya at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Vavuniya Police said. SLA soldiers were engaged in street patrol near Mahakatukodiya Road in Pirappamadu when the explosion occurred. The seriously injured soldier died on his way to the Vavuniya General Hospital, police said.

SLN soldiers falsely implicate Mannar fisherman

Mr.Anthony Balashankar, 35, Tamil fisherman and a father of five children, was arrested Thursday evening by the Sri Lanka Navy falsely implicating him that he was in possession of a grenade. The fisherman was produced in Mannar court Friday evening on a report that he was carrying a grenade with him at the time of arrest by the SLN soldiers. Additional Magistrate Mr.T.J.Pirapaharan remanded him till July 28, legal sources said.

LTTE hands over DPU soldier's body to SL Government
