US Bandwagon gets further exposed on Myanmar alignment amidst Rohingya genocide

The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar, Ms Yanghee Lee, announced in the UNHRC at Geneva on 13 March that the Burmese state was involved in Crimes against Humanity directed towards the Rohingya people. The rapporteur has further said that the institutional persecution “indicates the government may be trying to expel the Rohingya population from the country altogether” and she demanded an international level probe. Nobel peace prize winner Aung San Sung Kyi, who is the de facto leader of Myanmar government has refuted the UN report, and announced that an internal investigation is suffice to look into allegations. The USA, the EU and the UK have avoided taking a stand on the investigations and are apparently backing Myanmar to evade international pressure due to their geopolitical interests.

No action from Sirisena on withdrawing Sinhala colonists from pasturelands of Batticaloa

Tamil dairy farmers from interior Batticaloa, particularly those from Mayilaththa-madu and Maathava’nai in Kora’laip-pattu South (Kiraan) division, have been repeatedly complaining about large-scale Sinhala colonization taking place in the pasturelands of the country of Eezham Tamils since their area was seized by occupying Colombo from the protection of LTTE in 2007. After years of continuous agitation, the intrusion was halted to some extent a year ago. But, SL President Sirisena’s settler colonist goons continue to sustain their properties and huts in the pasturelands, Tamil farmers complain. According to court orders the illegal settlements including the huts should have been removed and activities such as agriculture in pasturelands should not take place. But, nothing has been removed so far, the Tamil farmers say.

Sinhalicisation targets strategic Pulmoaddai, Muslims complain

Tamil-speaking Muslims four GS divisions that come under Pulmoaddai, which is situated 52 kilometres north of Trincomalee, are now being confronted by Sinhala colonists from the bordering Sinhala-majoritarian division of Padavi Sri Pura, complain Muslim activists in the East. Pulmoaddai, located in Kuchchave'li division of Trincomalee district, is bordering Mullaiththeevu district in the North and the lagoon of Kokku’laay separates the two districts. The Ilmenite-rich Pulmoaddai lies on the southern edge of the lagoon. The hinterland in the northwest was made part of Sinhalicised Ma'na'l-aa'ru (Weli Oya) military zone in early 1980s and was transformed into a Sinhala-only division after the genocidal onslaught on Vanni in 2009. The occupying Colombo is now moving ahead with its plan of Sinhalicisation targeting Pulmoaddai.

SL Forest Department schemes seizure of lands released by occupying military in Champoor

The Forest Department of genocidal Sri Lanka is pushing ahead its plan of grabbing 50 acres of agricultural lands used by resettled Eezham Tamils in Champoor in Moothoor East. The SL Forest Department targets more than 50 acres of upper-lying agricultural lands that are located 2 km east of Kaa’li-amman temple. The resettled people, who have cleared the lands for cultivating cassava, peanuts, maize, chili pepper and tomato and made arrangements to channel water from a small tank in the area, complain that the SL Forest Department officials visited the area claiming that the area comes under their domain.

Genocidal Colombo schemes fresh Sinhala military colony in Champoor

After a prolonged period of discrimination against the resettled Eezham Tamils in Champoor and keeping the resettled people under military conditions, the occupying SL Navy in Champoor has now started to scheme a Sinhala colony for 145 families of the occupying SL Naval training base named Vidura (SLNS Vidura). The Sinhala colonial Governor to the Eastern Province, Kalupage Austin Fernando, a former Defence Secretary of the occupying Sri Lankan military and Sinhala Government Agent of Trincomalee District, N.A.A. Pushpakumara, another Sinhala official of Colombo have made the necessary arrangements. Initial work has already started for the construction of houses. A hospital and a Sinhala school are also included in the plan, informed Tamil-speaking sources in Trincomalee told TamilNet this week.

Fisheries federation in Jaffna demands direct talks with SL President, FM and Fisheries Minister

On the occasion of International Day of Vesak, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the island. The SL Fisheries Ministry that suppresses Eezham Tamils, particularly between Kokku'laay and Thiriyaay along the northeastern coast, is trying to release the trawlers that have been seized from the intruding Indian fishermen. Tamil fisheries societies in the North have come under pressure from Colombo to collaborate with Colombo and New Delhi to the move by the SL State. V. Subramaniam, who represents the federation of fisheries societies in Jaffna told TamilNet that their federation has demanded a direct meeting with SL President Maitiripala Sirisena, SL Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and SL Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amarasinghe on the burning issue of intruding trawlers from India and the Sinhala South into the territorial waters of Tamil-speaking people.

Colombo accelerates Sinhala colonisation of strategic Tamil village of Thiriyaay in East

The SL Government Agent of Trincomalee, N.A.A.Pushpakumara, has seized hundreds of acres of agricultural and residential lands that belong to uprooted Eezham Tamils in the ancient Tamil village of Thiriyaay, which is located 42 km north of Trincomalee city in Kuchchave'li administrative division. Most of the lands seized from Tamils have been ‘leased’ out to Sinhala business people from South, Tamil civil sources in the Divisional Secretariat told TamilNet. Thiriyaay has a major archaeological site. It is one of the remaining places showing strong legacies of Tamil Buddhism in the island belonging to Mahayana Buddhism. The ancient Tamil Buddhist site was protected by the Tamil Tigers when the area was under their control. After 2009, the occupying Sinhala colonists have been destroying Saiva (Hindu) temples and they have been also been distorting the Tamil Buddhist heritage.

Sinhala colonists in Kokku’laay violate interim order from Mullaiththeevu courts

The encroaching Sinhala fishermen along the disputed coastal strip of Kokku’laay in Mullaiththeevu were engaged in fishing disregarding the interim order of the courts on Monday. The intruding Sinhala fishermen assisted by the occupying SL Navy in civil were covering their faces and heads from identification. Following complaints from the native fishermen, Village (GS) officers and the officials from the Divisional Secretariat of Karai-thu’raip-pattu rushed to the locality to witness the conduct of the occupying Sinhala fishermen.

SL Governor in East sophisticatedly promotes controversial Buddha statue in Ampaa'rai

Anura Dharmadhasa has come under fire from Tamil-speaking activists in the Eastern Province for his open support to extremist Sinhala Buddhist Bodu Bala Sena (Buddhist Power Force) through promising to fix 2 acres of lands for the controversial construction of a Buddhist temple at Maayak-kalli-malai in I’rakkaamam division of Ampaa’raid district. In the meantime, Colombo's colonial governor of Eastern Province Justin Fernando, a former defence secretary, has gone on record that he was not aware of the promises made by Provincial Land Commissioner Mr Dharmadhasa. However, informed civil sources in Trincomalee say the SL Governor was in fact supportive of the move to erect Buddha statue at Maayak-kalli-malai.

North-East shuts down, Tamil protests gain momentum

Only the notorious ‘Special Task Force’ (STF) commandos of genocidal Sri Lanka and street dogs were plying the roads of Jaffna city on Thursday when North-East was brought to a complete standstill by trade unions, civil groups and the struggle-centric political parties among the Eezham Tamils, heeding the call from the families of enforced-disappeared people in Vanni. The shutdown also received the support of Tamil-speaking Muslims at several places in the North-East. Even a trade union, which was reluctant to heed the call extended full support in Vavuniyaa. The shutdown was a big blow to the promoters of the genocidal concept of Sri Lanka, its ‘strategic’ partners and their collaborators, commented Tamil activists in Jaffna.

Keappaa-pulavu protesters denounce compromises, demand all their lands released

The occupying Sinhala military and the so-called ‘Resettlement’ Ministry in Colombo are giving confusing, and often contradicting, information on the release of lands in Keappaa-pulavu, say uprooted Tamils, who have been waging a continuous protest outside the so-called ‘security force headquarters in Mullaiththeevu’ for more than 2 months now. Last week, there was yet another deceptive move by the SL Resettlement Ministry and the SL military. The role being played by the ITAK hierarchy has also come under fire from the uprooted people on the ground. The proposal of releasing only 30 acres of their 482 acres of original lands along with additional 90 acres of jungle lands, is not going to put an end to the protest, the protesting people say. The protesting families have vowed to intensify their campaign despite the harsh conditions prevailing at the site of protest.

SL Police ranks first in appropriation of private properties in 6 of 14 divisions of Batticaloa

At least 77 private land-owners from 6 divisions in Batticaloa have recently complained that their lands are still under the custody of the occupying SL Police, SL Army and SL Police, according to Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) Parliamentarian S. Yogeswaran, who revealed the details to ITAK activists in Kiraan at a meeting on Sunday. SL Police is occupying large number of private properties, according to the complaints, followed by SL Army and SL Navy. The land grab by SL Police is primarily for the camps of the occupying Special Task Force (STF) commandos, a notorious terror unit trained once by the British. The STF is a full-fledged outfit organized under the SL Police Department.

Muslim land-owners confront extremist Sinhala monks in Ampaa’rai

A Sinhala Buddhist monk from Kalmunai with a group of Sinhala extremists, this week deployed heavy vehicles and machinery to put up a road and expand the locality of a hilltop known as Maayak-kalli-malai, where they had placed a Buddha statue in October 2016 amidst opposition from Tamils and Muslims who live at the locality, situated in I’rakkaamam division of Ampaa’raid district. On Thursday, Muslim residents were summoned through a speaker announcement from the nearby mosque and marched towards the hilltop and confronted the extremist monks and their construction workers and demanded the intruders to stop the construction work. The protesters cited a complaint made by the land-owner where the intruding monks had placed the Buddha statue.

SL deceptions multiply as protests demanding lands intensify in Vanni

The surveying was to be carried out according to the instruction of the courts. But, Sinhala fishermen, occupying all the 10 paadus (coastal sea-beds falling within the scope of a draw net) in the coast of Eezham Tamils at Kokku’laay, were aggressively opposing Tamil fishermen and the officials from Mullaiththeevu district. A Buddha statue with a temple-like construction has been put up along the entrance to Trincomalee through Ki’n’niyaa bridge at a locality with predominantly Tamil-speaking Muslims. The Buddha temple has been put up within the last 3 weeks. Sinhala policemen and homeguards have been deployed to provide security to the temple 24 hours a day from a checkpost just opposite the temple along the A-15 Trincomalee – Ki’n’’niyaa Road. The statue has been put up within the Tsunami zone in the public lands, where a ferry point was situated before the times of Ki’n’inyaa bridge, the residents said. The move of erecting Buddhist temples with armed protection is a Constitutional tactic to spearhead Sinhala colonisation, Tamil-speaking political observers in Trincomalee said.

SL military, Resettlement ministry jointly deceive uprooted Valikaamam Tamils

A section of officials attached to Jaffna District Secretariat and the Divisional Secretariat of Thellip-pazhai, have deceived around 114 families of uprooted Tamils living in the so-called welfare centers to opt for buying alternative lands elsewhere in Jaffna. The officials, operating under ‘ministerial instruction’ from Colombo to collaborate with the designs of the occupying SL military at Palaali in Jaffna, have been locking some of these families telling them that they would ultimately receive their lands in Valikaamam North in future, but until that time comes, they should move out of the welfare camps into lands they purchase with the money offered by SL Resettlement Ministry as a ‘temporary’ measure.
