However, the SL State and its military show relentless intolerance against every attempt by the Tamils in the North-East to honour the sites of their destroyed monuments. The attitude is counter-productive, not only to the SL State but also to the global actors, who continue to appease the SL government, which refuses to reform itself, alluded Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, the leader of Tamil National Peoples' Front, in a recent interview to TamilNet. His comments come after witnessing the hostile acts of the SL military and the SL CID during the annual festival of Nalloor temple in Jaffna this month against the move to preserve the sacred nature of the memorial square of Lt. Col. Thileepan, who sacrificed himself in a fast-unto-death campaign in 1987. All of the rest of that period is a history of before colonial contact. It is a history, which identifies that Jaffna Fort is engaged in Indian Ocean Trade. [...] Most significantly, we have evidence that Jaffna was core within the Indo-Roman trade. So, [within] 200 BC and 200 AD, we have Jaffna at the centre of the Indian Ocean trade,” stated the British Archaeologist Professor Robin Coningham at a workshop cum press conference held at the University of Jaffna on Saturday. However, he was also reiterating the nature of the attached politics and the paradigm behind, which was nothing else than heritage-genocide as far as the Eezham Tamils are concerned, commented political activists in Jaffna. The colonisation scheme, initiated during the rule of Rajapaksa brothers, received state-patronisation after the regime change backed by the West. The colony is planned to control the arteries of the city and to Sinhalicise Jaffna city itself. The trend is also evidenced in the latest move by the occupying Colombo to station its troops at the Jaffna Fort, which is ‘developed’ with the blessings, funding and research coming from the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. There was no doubt the slain victims were subjected to a brutal massacre, said an excavator on condition of anonymity. The excavators have discovered gunshot holes in the skulls. A young person's skeleton was found along with the skeleton of an embracing adult, visibly exposing the brutality of the massacre. So far, the unearthed skeletal remains give a head count of 29. However, the extent of the killing field is still expanding, possibly reaching out of the premises. The move hints a deep-rooted motive of checkmating the native Tamil academics and their institutions from engaging in independent research. Mainly depending on the funds and the academic focus of the UK-based ‘UNESCO Chair on Archaeological Ethics and Practice in Cultural Heritage’ of the Durham University, which is flowing through the Colombo-centric unitary mechanism, the academics of the Faculty of Arts and the Department of History, avoid opposition to the Sinhala militarization of the Jaffna Fort, they further commented. In the meantime, the occupying SL military has started to put up foundation structures for a military point, just 100 meters close to the archaeological excavation site, on Friday. The Tamil landowners chose the legal option as the police of the occupying unitary State genocidal Sri Lanka was reluctant to even file a case against the encroachers for more than two years at that time. So far, the legal suit has seen nine hearings over four years. Still, the simple case is not resolved by the District Court, legal sources in Batticaloa said. The judiciary of genocidal Sri Lanka is long known for dragging essential cases over many years, especially when those seeking justice are Tamils and those committing injustices are the occupiers. The SL Police instructed by the Judge to investigate the case stated that it was impossible for them to investigate the case as more than 20 years have elapsed since the disappearance of the victims. Mahesh Senanayake told the recipients of 25 houses, which were built by the SL military at the so-called ‘Village of Reconciliation’ (Nalli'nakka-puram) on Friday that it was the duty of the recipients of the housing scheme to bring up their children without recourse to a bitter war as in the past. Otherwise, the military was in a position to take back what it was giving, he said. When the Tamil interpreter was reluctant to translate the intimidating statement, he repeated the message to the translator, making sure his warning gets translated from Sinhala to Tamil to the target audience. Wigneswaran in an interview to TamilNet on Friday. The same tendency was also witnessed in the anti-Tamil pogroms of the past, and it is the wrong attitude on the part of the Sinhala politicians that has been contributing to the pogroms in the island. The SL leaders are displaying the same attitude with regards to the war crimes investigations, he said. “Only if there is a foreign input into the process of investigations, we might be able to bring about an attitudinal change on the part of the government and the majority community. Nothing will come out of a local inquiry,” he said. But, in reality, the Sinhala military is stealing the contracts from the firms of Tamils and is depriving Tamils of their employment. Ultimately, the SL military has seized the control of the entire market in the Tamil homeland from farming to construction, civil officials in Jaffna said. On the one hand, the unitary SL State is suppressing the Northern Provincial Council without allocating required funds for necessary development and rehabilitation work of the war-affected province, but on the other hand, it is waging a propaganda against the NPC as being inefficient, they further commented.
