Thirukkovil refugees' woes worsened by STF

Eight hundred and nine refugee families, displaced from the interior villages of Thangavelayuthapuram, Kanjikudichcha Aaru, Alikkambai, Thandiady, Udumbankulam etc., in the south eastern sector of the Amparai district, have been living as refugees in Thirukkovil, a large ancient Tamil village, on the eastern coast of the Amparai District, since 1990.

Leprosy, almost non-existent in the Thenmaradchi region in Jaffna recently, is emerging again in that area, said sources in Jaffna. A case detected at Meesalai in Chavakachcheri in the Thenmaradchi region, is causing concern in Jaffna medical circles as even the handful of reported cases in the peninsula have come from Tholpuram, Chulipuram and Velanai.

Parents of Tigers assaulted

Planned deportation takes toll on family, friends

Military to conduct Jaffna elections

War is at a stalemate: Kalkat

In his opinion, the Sri Lankan government's war in the Tamil homelands is a 'stalemate'. General Kalkat has first hand experience of the conflict: he was the commander of the inaptly named Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) dispatched to tame the Tigers on behalf of the Sri Lankan government in 1987.
