Remembering 35th Black July with Tamil resolve

This week, Eezham Tamils in the homeland and the Tamil Diaspora mark the 35th anniversary of the collective trauma of the ‘Black July’, the SL state-sponsored genocidal pogrom that claimed the lives of more than 3,000 Tamil residents in the south of the island in 1983. The key lesson learned throughout the years of the pogroms, massacres, genocidal war and finally the post-war structural genocide, which is aimed at dismantling the existence of Eezham Tamils as a nation, is a hard reality. The genocide originating from the Mahawansa mind-set always gets its way, not because of the strength of the Sinhala nation, but mainly because the external State actors sustaining the Colombo-centric approach, is that lesson. Thus, the collaborationists and the negotiators among the Eezham Tamils were always doomed to failure, Tamil political observers in Jaffna commented.

Jaffna University silent to Colombo's pressure, motives behind Fort excavation questioned

The Colombo-based Archaeology Department of the unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka is pushing for the presence of the SL military inside the Jaffna Fort. The move hints a deep-rooted motive of checkmating the native Tamil academics and their institutions from engaging in independent research. Mainly depending on the funds and the academic focus of the UK-based ‘UNESCO Chair on Archaeological Ethics and Practice in Cultural Heritage’ of the Durham University, which is flowing through the Colombo-centric unitary mechanism, the academics of the Faculty of Arts and the Department of History, avoid opposition to the Sinhala militarization of the Jaffna Fort, they further commented. In the meantime, the occupying SL military has started to put up foundation structures for a military point, just 100 meters close to the archaeological excavation site, on Friday.

Colombo accelerates delinking of Tamil-speaking demographic contiguity in North-East

SL Governor to East Rohitha Bogollagama, conspiring with the Sinhala-Buddhist establishment and the administrative officials of the unitary state, has instructed the Divisional Secretary of Kuchchave'li to survey 400 acres of lands at Arisimalai, which is located 50 km north of Trincomalee city. The Sinhala colonial governor was arguing in favour of the extremist Sinhala Buddhist monks stating that the lands belong to the Buddhist vihara. The move, which has long been objected by the Tamil-speaking Muslims, is surfacing again at the absence of an elected Provincial Council in the East. Tamil-speaking activists in Pulmoaddai say that the Sinhala Buddhist establishment is trying to survey at least 1,300 acres of lands from Arisimalai to Thiriyaay in the division of Kuchchave'li.

SL Judiciary drags on lawsuits for years when Buddhist monks grabbing lands are respondents

Four Tamils, whose lands were encroached by the former soldiers of the occupying Sinhala military with the backing of two extremist Buddhist monks in Batticaloa district, approached the SL courts four years ago in 2014 seeking the SL judiciary to free their lands. The Tamil landowners chose the legal option as the police of the occupying unitary State genocidal Sri Lanka was reluctant to even file a case against the encroachers for more than two years at that time. So far, the legal suit has seen nine hearings over four years. Still, the simple case is not resolved by the District Court, legal sources in Batticaloa said. The judiciary of genocidal Sri Lanka is long known for dragging essential cases over many years, especially when those seeking justice are Tamils and those committing injustices are the occupiers.

Military can take back whatever it releases, SL commander tells uprooted people in Jaffna

Mahesh Senanayake, the commander of the occupying Army of the unitary State of genocidal Sri Lanka, was ‘reminding’ the families of uprooted people that the SL military was in a position to take back whatever being released to the public. Mahesh Senanayake told the recipients of 25 houses, which were built by the SL military at the so-called ‘Village of Reconciliation’ (Nalli'nakka-puram) on Friday that it was the duty of the recipients of the housing scheme to bring up their children without recourse to a bitter war as in the past. Otherwise, the military was in a position to take back what it was giving, he said. When the Tamil interpreter was reluctant to translate the intimidating statement, he repeated the message to the translator, making sure his warning gets translated from Sinhala to Tamil to the target audience.

Monks object alienation of public lands to Tamils in border village of Batticaloa

A Sinhala Buddhist extremist monk has been threatening the civil officials in Poaaratheevup-pattu (Vellaa-ve'li) division of Batticaloa district against alienation of public lands to 15 poverty-stricken and war-affected Tamil families at Maalaiyar-kaddu village, located close to the border with the Uhana division of Ampaa'rai district. The threat initiated by the monk has been escalating into pressure from the authorities of the occupying Colombo, informed sources at the District Secretariat told TamilNet. Maalaiyar-kaddu is a remote Tamil village located 55 km southwest of Batticaloa city. The intruding monk and Sinhala colonists have built a Buddhist temple at Chinna-vaththai, a GS division to the north of Malaiyar-kaddu, at the lands that belonged to Irrigation Department.

The close associate of Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan was making a particular reference to the latest move by the Mahaweli Authority planning to grab 7,000 acres of lands in Mullaiththeevu and said a strong message has already been conveyed through Mr Sampanthan to the concerned Establishment in Colombo. Ananthy urges IC to put an end to 100-years of pogroms through genocide investigations

TNA Parliamentarian calls for UN plebiscite on independent Tamil State

Taking part in a side-event on Tamils Right to Self-Determination, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian Sivagnanam Shritharan on Monday called for a UN referendum among Eezham Tamils to exercise their external Self-Determination. The TNA MP was referring to 1977 democratic mandate for Tamil Eelam and the 2009-2010 referenda held in the Tamil diaspora. Mr Sritharan was braving the prohibition imposed upon him to articulate the aspiration by the 6th Amendment of genocidal Sri Lanka as he was explicitly calling for the exercise of the right to external self-determination. Mr Sritharan has smashed the taboo placed upon him by the TNA hierarchy controlled by R. Sampanthan and M.A. Sumanthiran through his explicit call for external right to self-determination at Geneva, Tamil political activists in Jaffna said welcoming the courageous move.

Pogrom shows negative side of majority, unworkability of local investigations: NPC CM

The recent anti-Muslim pogrom seems to be a pre-planned act, said Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council Justice C.V. Wigneswaran in an interview to TamilNet on Friday. The same tendency was also witnessed in the anti-Tamil pogroms of the past, and it is the wrong attitude on the part of the Sinhala politicians that has been contributing to the pogroms in the island. The SL leaders are displaying the same attitude with regards to the war crimes investigations, he said. “Only if there is a foreign input into the process of investigations, we might be able to bring about an attitudinal change on the part of the government and the majority community. Nothing will come out of a local inquiry,” he said.

Elected Muslim councillor in Jaffna refutes claims of SL military commander

There is no truth in the claim,” K.M. Nilam Niyaz, one of the two Muslim councillors recently elected to Jaffna Municipal Council, told TamilNet on Sunday. “As you are aware, the military is trying to exploit the situation to its advantage politically. Tamils and Muslims should not allow them to be deceived by this propaganda. Instead, they should stand united as Tamil-speaking people like they did before 1990. All the ethnicities in the island should live in peace and harmony,” the 47-year-old Tamil-speaking Muslim politician commented further.

SL authorities refuse to channel irrigation water to Vella-ve'li from Inginiyagala Reservoir

More than 1,000 Eezahm Tamil families are affected as their rice fields are not receiving irrigation water supply in Vellaa-ve'li, located 24 km southeast of Batticaloa city. The SL authorities in predominantly Sinhala Inginiyagala irrigation scheme in the nearby Ampaa'rai district are refusing to channel water to the smaller reservoirs in Vellaa-ve'li. It has been the practice in the past, especially when the local reservoirs go empty for irrigation water during the dry season, to channel water from the largest Inginiyagala reservoir to the smaller reservoirs in Vellaa-ve'li.

FIU of CBSL emerges as networked Intel outfit against Tamils in homeland, Diaspora

The so-called Financial Investigative Unit (FIU) of the Central Bank of the unitary State of genocidal Sri Lanka (CBSL), which is led by a Colombo-based ‘Sri Lankan’ Tamil, Indrajith Coomaraswamy, is scheming rigid controls on Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) in the North-East with a ‘counter-insurgency’ role. The Central Bank is deploying the provisions of the Financial Transactions Reporting Act, No. 6 of 2006 (FTRA), which was gazetted by the former regime of Mahinda Rajapaksa, for financial surveillance on Eezham Tamils, both in the homeland and in the Diaspora. The Central Bank of the unitary State system has become another Colombo-centric authority to wage structural genocide against Eezham Tamils with a sophisticated global network as well as sharing intelligence and surveillance with the military and police of the genocidal State.

NPC urges UNHRC to refer SL State to an international judicial mechanism

The Northern Provincial Council passed a resolution on Tuesday urging the UN Human Rights Council to refer the SL State, which has not only failed in implementing the UNHRC resolution but also gone on record opposing to comply with it, to an international judicial mechanism headed by the UN. The resolution also urged that the IC, especially the USA which co-sponsored the UNHRC resolution, the European Union and India to mediate a political solution between the Tamil nation and the Sri Lankan State.

SL Police take sides, Sinhala tipper drivers causing fatal accidents escape legal action

The police of occupying Colombo is protecting the Sinhala vehicle owners and drivers of the tipper vehicles that are involved in fatal accidents in Batticaloa district, legal sources representing the victim families, said observing a pattern involving several accidents in the East. A speeding tipper vehicle, which was transporting sand from Batticaloa to Polonnaruwa claimed the life of a 26-year-old Tamil man in the early hours of 25 February. Another victim sustained severe injuries. But, the Sinhala driver hailing from SL President's home district of Polonnaruwa has managed to evade legal action with the help of the police of the occupying unitary State. Another similar accident claimed the life of a 62-year-old former Village Officer at Kathira-ve'li on the following day.

Tamils have no freedom in the island: Justice Wigneswaran

NPC Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, in his capacity as the co-chairman of Tamil Peoples’ Council, on Saturday explained in a moderately worded statement why Tamils are boycotting or abstaining from the so-called ‘Independence’ Day celebrations while genocidal Sri Lanka is marking 70 years since February 04, 1948 on Sunday. Justice Wigneswaran was still harping on the outdated paradigm of ‘devolution of power under a Federal constitution’ and was failing point out that the root cause to the conflict was the British-introduced constitutional discourse in the island, which was neglecting the parity of status to Eezham Tamils as a nation. However, he was bold enough to issue a statement noting “celebration of Independence from the Britishers has lost its significance due to our coming under the domination and hegemony of the Sinhalese,” while being the chief minister of the NPC.

UNP wants to erect 1000 Sinhala-Buddhist temples in occupied Tamil country

The UNP of the ruling Yahapalanaya alliance, particularly SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, has recently gone on record vowing to erect 1,000 Buddhist temples in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils in the North-East of the island. The agenda is also mentioned in the manifesto of UNP in the run-up to the local elections. The UNP claims as it has managed to allocate 500 million rupees to the programme. The propaganda waged by the UNP and the SLFP in Vavuniyaa has been centred around the theme of SL State sponsorship to Sinhala-Buddhisication of Vavuniyaa and the North. The construction of 1,000 locations for Sinhalicisation in the North-East project is being termed as a ‘reconciliation project’.
