Relay race for genocide sanctified as ‘Good Governance’ by USA: Jude Lal

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 09 September 2015, 00:01 GMT]
0The SLFP/UPFA, UNP, JHU and the JVP have all claimed their share in the genocidal ‘military victory’ against the Tamils. The Sinhala liberal intelligentsia describes the trend as a ‘relay race’, where each Sinhala political leader had taken turns in contributing to the victory, says Professor Jude Lal of Trinity College, Dublin, in an interview to TamilNet on Tuesday. “There is an inherent racism within the so-called project of good governance, which is based on a victor’s mentality. The agenda of the ‘good governance’ did not arise from the Sinhala society. It was part of the US-sponsored UN resolution and a facade to cover up crimes committed against the Tamil people by the Sri Lankan state,” the exiled Sinhala academic says adding that the political power of the ‘Sinhala Supremacist State’ is at its peak at the moment.

Obama legacy of progressive moral decay

[TamilNet, Monday, 07 September 2015, 18:47 GMT]
Borussia Dortmund supporters hold a banner showing their support for refugees (Photo: Courtesy AP)Obama's foreign policy legacy is likely to be, not just that he presided over humanitarian and cultural disasters of epochal proportions, now with flood of refugees from Syria after US engineered instability with Iraqi invasion and later supporting ill-conceived National Opposition, and observing as passive on-lookers at the unfolding "Crime of the century" when Sinhala troops killed more than 80,000 Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka, but that Obama soothed the American people into feeling no responsibilities for the tragedies. Germany, which abstained from colluding with US, Britain, France, Turkey and Gulf states in the aggression against Assad, is now setting the moral leadership to the West, welcoming nearly one million Muslim-Syrians, and planning to integrate them as citizens of its own.

Indian media implies anti-Tamil policy as antidote to Chinese influence

[TamilNet, Sunday, 06 September 2015, 11:39 GMT]
The Hindustan Times in a feature on Sunday said, “Rajapaksa, a lawyer from the country’s deep south, epitomised what many Lankans felt about India – that New Delhi will always favour the Tamils and the Sinhalese will be a wary majority, alert about saving their culture, language and economy from an onslaught just waiting to be launched from barely 22 nautical miles away. China was the antidote. Under Rajapaksa’s presidency in November 2005, Beijing finally got its foot in the door […] The new government has already reversed the tide,” said the feature by Sutirtho Patranobis, reporting from Colombo/ Beijing. The New Delhi-based media’s projection of affairs of the island to masses in India raises serious questions, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

Disabled ex-LTTE female cadre, surviving suicide attempt, speaks out

[TamilNet, Saturday, 05 September 2015, 23:09 GMT]
A former LTTE combatant, who attempted to commit suicide in July 2015 as she was unable to repay the loans taken from her relatives in order to complete the construction of their house, which the family received through the Indian Housing Scheme, told TamilNet that disabled ex-LTTE members, especially women, have been subjected to constant trauma as they were unable to sustain their livelihood. Instead of receiving monetary assistance, the disabled former fighters preferred employment opportunities, which could relieve them from discriminatory practices in the job market such as in the garment industry, the recovered mother of three told TamilNet on Saturday.

TNA faces pressure from ITAK grassroots to reject US move on domestic mechanism

[TamilNet, Thursday, 03 September 2015, 23:36 GMT]
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) hierarchy is facing pressure from the grassroots of the Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) against the move to extend its support to domestic investigations, informed sources told TamilNet on Thursday. In an interview to TamilNet this week, Eastern Provincial Council member of the ITAK, Mr Nageswaran Kumarasamy, categorically rejected the domestic accountability mechanism, which is to be proposed by the USA, Sri Lanka and other actors in collaboration in the forthcoming sessions of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, saying that a such mechanism lacks credibility and security in the context of the island of Sri Lanka.

Tamils should prepare for alternative international investigation if UN fails

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 02 September 2015, 06:06 GMT]
At least now realising the persistently deceptive agenda of Washington and New Delhi, what Tamils could do is acting on their own with innovation in internationalising the investigation and extracting justice, if the UN is going to fail, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island. By righteously reiterating the resolution on genocide and international investigation in the wake of the latest US deceit, the NPC led by Justice Wigneswaran has provided a historic moral mandate for all those who care for the rights of humanity all over the world to alternatively internationalise the investigation, focussing on what the powers and the agent State in the island have committed and are committing, the activists said.

Chief Minister Wigneswaran rejects domestic investigation in new NPC resolution

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 01 September 2015, 06:23 GMT]
0Questioning the legal possibilities of conducting a credible investigation within the domestic sphere of the Sri Lankan Constitution and pointing out other hurdles within the SL State system, C.V. Wigneswaran, the Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council (NPC) on Tuesday passed a resolution rejecting the domestic process being proposed by the USA and other powers. In ithe new resolution, the NPC has once again demanded a credible international investigation mechanism. Mr Wigneswaran, the NPC chief minister, who was a former Supreme Court Judge of Sri Lanka, citied previous examples of domestic failures including the earlier commissions that had international participation. Explaining the nature of crimes and legal circumstances prevailing in the island, the suggestion of domestic mechanism would be a ‘travesty of justice’ the CM proclaimed in the resolution.

Families of enforced disappeared Tamils decry domestic investigations

[TamilNet, Sunday, 30 August 2015, 15:38 GMT]
Around 1,200 people from all the 8 districts of North-East came together at an emotional gathering on Sunday at the De La Salle Brothers School in Mannaar, remembering the enforced disappeared persons in the country of Eezham Tamils. On the occasion of the International Day of the Disappeared, the families of enforced disappeared demanded independent international investigations and categorically rejected the domestic and so-called hybrid mechanisms that are currently being advocated by the USA. In the meantime, leading lawyers from Mannaar told TamilNet on Sunday that international investigations were necessary on the mass graves at the killing fields of Mannaar. On Friday, an abandoned well allegedly used by the SL military to dump slain Tamils was located 40 meters close to Maanthai Junction near Thirukkeatheesvaram temple.

Domestic process will be tantamount to “victor's justice”: TNPF

[TamilNet, Saturday, 29 August 2015, 20:25 GMT]
Citing its consistent warnings to Tamils about the use of their struggle by geo-political contestations, the Tamil National People's Front (TNPF) in a statement on Saturday said that it insists on an international criminal justice process since any domestic process will be tantamount to “victor's justice”. The TNPF also said that the ‘devolution paradigm’ [so far imposed by Washington and New Delhi, and recently re-iterated in hoodwink by Ranil Wickramasinghe], would not work to the context of the island. Rejecting ‘Sri Lankan’ nation-state, the TNPF argued for Tamils and Sinhalese coming together as nations of Self-Determination in a bi-national State in the island. It is up to the Muslims and Up Country Tamils whether they wish to assert to their right to self-determination with consciousness or not, the policy statement further said.

Reconciling genocidal Sri Lanka is outdated game of imperialism

[TamilNet, Friday, 28 August 2015, 00:39 GMT]
0The historical contribution of Lakshman Kadirgamar was convincing the West, on behalf of the Colombo-centric genocidal formation that the national struggle of Eezham Tamils is the prime impediment or opportunity to act in negativeness, for the successful re-entry of the West into the region. After deceiving the nation of Eezham Tamils into second ‘Mu'l'livaaykkaal’ by treading on any international justice to them, Tony Blair, who was the British Prime Minister during the first genocidal onslaught, defended the second one too on Monday, choosing the occasion to deliver Lakshman Kadirgamar Memorial Address in Colombo. All the imperialisms of the West considered Colombo as the pivotal point to enter into the region even though they had headquarters in Goa, Batavia (Jakarta), Tranquebar, Pondicherry and Calcutta. The reason was the fear or inferiority complex about the larger subcontinent.

BJP, Indian Marxists should stop talking about 1857

[TamilNet, Thursday, 27 August 2015, 17:39 GMT]
When the 1857 rebellion in India broke out against British imperialism and when the British tried to degrade it as mere ‘Sepoy Mutiny’, Marx and Engels, then writing from London, based on reports that took months to come via sea, saw the point that it was not Mutiny, but the “First War of Indian Independence.” Decades later, Veer Savarkar, one of the founders of the Hindu Mahasabah, the forerunner of the RSS, Jan Sangh and today's BJP, wrote a book, “The Volcano” to describe 1857. The BJP, Indian Marxists and the so-called Indian nationalists have no right to speak about 1857, the Jallianwala Bagh of the 1919 etc., when they fail to see the genocide of the nation of Eezham Tamils for imperialistic purposes and the historical righteousness of their struggle that has faced all the imperialisms of the present times, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

‘Global War’ to wage genocide, ‘domestic mechanism’ to confirm structural genocide

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 26 August 2015, 17:49 GMT]
The USA that designed the ‘International Community’ genocidal onslaught on the national question of Eezham Tamils in the name of Global War on Terror (GWOT) and the agent State in Colombo that conducted it on the ground will move in collaboration in the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in September for a ‘domestic mechanism’ of investigation, which is sure to confirm and institutionalise the on-going structural genocide in the island. The announcement in this regard, immediately following the parliamentary elections, confirms the crux of the agenda for which electoral politics was engineered in the island, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics. Eezham Tamils, who have wasted their time, energy and money on a deceptive political course, designed by the ultimate culprits, should at least now think of a different paradigm of polity, the activists further said.

SLM Hanifa urges Tamil-speaking politicians to transcend parochial localism

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 26 August 2015, 10:05 GMT]
Veteran writer SLM Hanifa has warned Tamils and Muslims of the sinister motives of the incumbent UNP-SLFP regime and the exploitative global politics of the Powers. Urging the Tamil-speaking Muslims and Tamils to shed past old wounds towards building unity between all Tamil speakers, also including the Upcountry Tamils, in order to defend the larger interests of their communities, the former NEPC councillor from Batticaloa condemned the opportunistic parliamentary orientations of the Muslim politicians, who have hitherto brought political confusion among the Muslim masses through their actions that have only strengthened the Sinhala-dominated coalitions. "Like the caste system is exploited for seeking votes in Tamil Nadu, locality-oriented parochialism has emerged as a destructive factor in the electoral politics in the island, which is exploited by the UNP and the SLFP,” Mr Hanifa said.

Competition mounts in engineering genocidal Sri Lanka

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 25 August 2015, 16:07 GMT]
South Africa's Cyril Ramaphosa was on a secret mission to Colombo last weekend. Mr. Tony Blair, who was the British Prime Minister during the genocidal onslaught of Eezham Tamils was in the island on a two weeks tour since 11 August. US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal and another US official are in Colombo. The section of Sinhala Buddhist elements in the mission or payroll of protecting Rajapaksa, who openly took a China line earlier this year, connected the dots to depict IC conspiracy, by linking Ramaphosa to the ICG and to a CIA mission. In response, the South African Government on Tuesday announced that Mr Ramaphosa was no longer connected to the ICG. The hectic visits and the recent Indian media scurry in claiming hold on affairs as well as 'guidance' for domestic investigation, signal only mounting competition in stabilizing the genocidal State with new local partners.

TNA should clarify ‘consensus’ on domestic investigation

[TamilNet, Monday, 24 August 2015, 15:24 GMT]
While interviewing Mr Ranil Wikremesinghe for The Hindu on Monday, Indian media’s veteran antagonist of Eezham Tamil independence, ‘Sri Lanka Ratna’ Ram, came out with a question like guidance: “And on the human rights issues, there is a demand for an international investigation. But clearly there is a consensus in Sri Lanka that the investigation should be domestic.” The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) should clarify to Tamils whether it is part of this ‘consensus’, since genocidal Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister recognizes it in the interview as one of the three key players. Any silence of TNA in this matter should prompt Tamils to lose no time in mobilising their polity to face the drama that is going to be enacted in Geneva next month by the Indo-US playwrights, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics.

Colombo's Wildlife Department harasses Eezham Tamil villagers in Maanthai West

[TamilNet, Sunday, 23 August 2015, 23:24 GMT]
0The occupying Sinhala military and the operatives of Colombo's Wildlife Department, have been harassing the Tamil people to vacate from Kuruvil village, situated in Paalaip-perumaa'l-kaddu GS division in Maanthai West DS division of Mannaar District. The harassment has been going on since SL President Maithiripala Sirisena came to power in January 2015. Around 70 families have already left from the village, where they have been residing since late 60s. More than 35 families are still fighting for their right to live in the village, which is located on the northeast sector of Kadduk-karaik-ku'lam (Giant's Tank). The SL Wildlife Department, claiming the village as coming under Giant's Tank Sanctuary, has filed cases against 6 families at Mannaar District Court. While the case is going on, Colombo's department has put up Sinhalicised name boards at several locations of the village.

Call for independent political judgement is ‘radicalism’ to Indian media

[TamilNet, Thursday, 20 August 2015, 06:27 GMT]
The NPC Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran’s written statements during the elections for people to have their own independent judgement in voting for polity and personalities might have implied transcending TNA’s political discourse, but by reporting it as “urging the Tamils to vote for radicalism” the New Indian Express reporter P K Balachandran, based in Colombo, has only proved his journalistic incapacity in correctly conveying statements issued in Tamil to English readers in India. The New Indian Express should immediately recall him if it cares for journalistic justice in reporting sensitive statements coming in Tamil language, unless such reporting is the current official policy of the media corporate on the affairs of the island, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

Eezham Tamils preparing for unfolding phase of struggle

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 19 August 2015, 05:50 GMT]
The Eezham Tamil voting pattern in August-2015 elections resembles in certain ways the 1970 elections in then Ceylon. Mr V. Navaratnam, who had understood the course of deceptive politics by genocidal Colombo and futility of Tamils alternately looking upon Sinhala political parties, came out of the ITAK (Federal Party) to form Thamizhar Chuyaadchik Kazhakam (Tamil Self-Rule Party). The Party’s performance in 1970 elections was pathetically poor, overshadowed by the Federal Party and Tamil Congress. But it took just two years for the situation to change thoroughly. Colombo’s new constitution in 1972 compelled both the FP and TC, as well as Tamil communists, to declare higher than what Navaratnam was envisaging – independent and sovereign Tamil Eelam, which the Tamils endorsed in the 1977 elections.

TNA secures 16 of 29 SL parliamentary seats in North-East

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 18 August 2015, 05:50 GMT]
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has secured 5 seats in the Jaffna electoral district, 4 seats in Vanni, 3 seats in Batticaloa, 1 in Trincomalee, 1 in Ampaa'rai and two seats for nominated parliamentarians according to the latest figures. In Jaffna, S. Sritharan, Mavai Senathirajah, M.A. Sumanthiran, T. Sitharthan and E. Saravanapavan have secured their seats after repeated counting of preferential votes on Tuesday while Suresh Premachandran lost his parliamentary seat. In the meantime, United National Party (UNP) led by Ranil Wickramasinghe is set to form the SL government in the South, despite a tough race with Mahinda Rajapaksa's UPFA. The UNP was leading the electoral districts in the South, particularly where Tamils and Muslims live in considerable numbers. UNP has got 106 seats in the SL parliament followed by the UPFA (95), TNA (16), JVP (06), EPPD (01) and SLMC (01).
