116 Tamil civilians held in Boosa detention camp

116 Tamil civilians including eight women are being detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in the Boosa Detention Camp located in Galle. The detainees were arrested in Colombo and other parts of the country during cordon and search operations. Majority of them are natives of North-East.

11 Tamils arrested in Dehiwela

Eleven Tamil civilians were taken into custody by Sri Lanka Police in a cordon and search operations conducted in Dehiwela in Colombo city from Wednesday midnight till dawn Thursday. Most of those arrested are aged between 25 and 40, and have been staying in Dehiwela with their relatives and friends, and are natives of districts in North-East.

Twelve of Tamil youths arrested on suspicion and detained in four police stations in Colombo were suddenly transferred to Boosa Detention Camp in Galle in the southern province Monday. They were among several Tamil civilians, majority of them natives of Jaffna and upcountry Tamil plantations arrested by government security forces in Colombo and its suburbs during several cordon and search operations conducted recently, and detained in several police stations in the capital city, media sources in Colombo said.

"Majority Report" authors commended

On Thursday, 3 youths belonging to IDP families were abducted by the paramilitary. Residents fear increased abductions as 4700 persons from Vaharai region crossed over the entry point at Kajuwatte, 5 km north of Mankerni, Friday and Saturday, and around 1200 civilians reached Singapura area through Kattumurivu. Abductions of underage youth, taking place almost on a daily basis, are no longer complained to Police following threats from paramilitary.

Court orders release of arrested refugees
