17 SLA killed, 54 wounded, two-pronged SL operation thwarted in Mannaar - LTTE

Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) on Saturday thwarted a two-pronged Sri Lanka Army (SLA) movement towards Uyilangku'lam in Mannaar, Tiger officials at Mannaar Operations Command told media in Ki'linochchi. Backed with heavy artillery and Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher fire, the SLA troops attempted to enter LTTE controlled area on two fronts, but were defeated after 12 hours of stiff resistance in which 17 SLA troopers were killed and 54 wounded. 3 LTTE fighters were killed in action, according to the Tigers.

The SLA group retreated carrying the injured, sources in Ki’linochchi said.

The ELC, a Tamils' Rehabilitation Organization (TRO)-funded college, was established on September 13, 2004 to produce educators to fulfill the shortage of competent of English teachers in the NorthEast.

SLA delays plague Vanni patients travelling to Vavuniyaa

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops and Intelligence personnel at Oamanthai check point stop ambulances carrying patients from Vanni to Vavuniya hospital and force them to get down, subject them to rigorous checking, and then transport in SLA- operated ambulances to Vavuniyaa. Several pregnant women going for confinement have had to wait for hours before they had space allocated in the SLA ambulance, civil society sources in Vanni said.

Medical staff in Vanni protest against DPU Claymore attacks on ambulances

0More than 700 medical staff in Vanni, including doctors, nurses, technical staff, midwives and minor staff from K'ilinochchi and Mullaiththeevu districts, Thursday morning staged a protest against targeted Claymore attacks by the Sri Lanka Army Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) on ambulances and humanitarian vehicles. In August last year, a DPU attack on the ambulance of Nedungkea'ni claimed the lives of the doctor of Nedungkea'ni hospital, his wife, two nurses and the driver of the ambulance. On 25 November, the driver of the ambulance of Muzhangkaavil hospital was seriously wounded in a Claymore attack at Mudkompan in Poonakari (Pooneryn).

Jim Brown, seemed like an eyewash exercise without any sincerity, being conducted to "hoodwink the International Community" into believing that investigation was continuing. "Two weeks ago, a CID officer from Colombo came to meet me. He only knew Sinhala. I was shocked to realize how he could conduct investigations without working knowledge in Tamil and English to collect evidence on the disappearance of Fr. Brown," the Bishop said while briefing media on the prevailing situation in Jaffna.

Funeral of media personnel killed in SLAF attack held in Ki'linochchi

Hundreds of residents from areas of Vanni paid their last respects to two of the three media personnel of Voice of Tigers (VOT) slain in the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombing of the radio station in Ki'linochchi Tuesday. People paid respects to the remains of Ms.Iasaivili Chempiyan and M. Suresh Limbio rested on flower bed at Ki'linochchi Cultural Hall at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, sources in Ki'linochchi said. Reporters without Borders said the attack which killed eleven persons and wounded fifteen, was a "war crime."

U.S. condemns attacks in Colombo, Ki'linochchi on civilians

The Embassy of the United States of America in Colombo, in a press release issued on Thursday, said the Government of United States strongly condemned the deadly attacks on civilians that occurred in a shopping mall, a government office on Wednesday in Colombo and on a bus carrying schoolchildren on Tuesday near Ki'linochchi. "Only a political solution, not a military one, offers a way out of the current cycle of escalating violence," reiterated the U.S. statement.

Airstrike on VoT, a war crime - RSF

A Sri Lanka military air strike Tuesday on the Voice of Tigers, the radio station of the Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE), was a "war crime," Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said. Three of the station's staff, who had not been given any warning, and six other civilians were killed in the bombardment by air force jets, the RSF said.
