Member of Parliament, Keith Locke, Secretary of the Refugee Council of New Zealand (RCNZ) Heval Hylan, Human Rights Activist from Global Peace and Justice, Mike Treen, and about 200 Tamils participated in the event which also featured a cultural show.

Elilan, in an urgent letter to the Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Major General Ulf Henricsson Saturday evening said that artillery attacks by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and air strikes by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) in the Liberation Tigers controlled territories in the Northeast, tantamounted to Declaration of War by the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) against the LTTE. "It is now appropriate for the SLMM to declare publicly that the ceasefire agreement is not holding anymore on the ground," Mr. Elilan told media.

Mannar Police arrests youth over grenade attack

Mannar Police arrested a Tamil youth, a resident of Vidathaltivu in Mannar district Saturday morning around 11 a.m., in connection with the grenade attack on a police sentry located in front of Mannar public library building on July 27th morning. The youth is now detained in the Mannar Police Station and is being interrogated, Police sources said.

8 LTTE members killed, 4 wounded in SLAF bombing

Eight Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) members, 2 offiicals and 6 cadres, were killed and four wounded when Sri Lanka Air Force bombed Liberation Tigers' Thenaham Conference Centre in Karadiyanaru, 24 kilometers northwest of Batticaloa. SLAF bombers attacked the LTTE run Thenaham between 11:30 and 12:00 Saturday. Batticaloa Head of Tamileelam War Hero's Affairs, Thamilchelvan mama and Batticaloa Coordinator of Village Development Scheme Ariharan were among the dead, according to LTTE Batticaloa Political Head Daya Mohan. Kfir jets dropped 12 bombs in three rounds, destroying the Conference Centre.

SLMM Head, villagers discussion abruptly ends following aerial strike

Villagers in discussion with SLMM head.A crucial discussion over the Mavilaru water crisis held Friday afternoon between Maj. Gen. Ulf Henricsson, Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) and villagers of LTTE held Eachchilampathu Vaharai division at Kallady LTTE political office ended abruptly following aerial strike on civilian targets in the area by Sri Lanka Air Force. Buildings of the Verugal Muhathuwaram Government Tamil School were damaged and two Tamil civilians were injured when Kifir jets dropped bombs on the area located about 750 meters away from the Kallady LTTE political office where the SLMM head had discussion with representatives of the villagers.

Finland to withdraw truce monitors from Sri Lanka

Finland has decided to withdraw it's members of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) from Sri Lanka. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), recently reiterated their stand that the formal process of ceasefire monitoring required a scrupulous commitment to neutrality in Sri Lanka's conflict, which was compromised by the EU ban and responded to Norway's initial request of 6 months to replace monitors within a shorter time frame, and later extended the time frame for two months, till September 01. The Norwegian Special Envoy Jon-Hanssen Bauer is sheduled to visit Sri Lanka to discuss the process forward.

Six Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres were killed and five wounded when Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir jets bombed a camp of the Tigers in Kathiraveli, 40 km southeast of Trincomalee town, in LTTE controlled Vakarai region Thursday around 3:30 p.m., Trincomalee District Political Head of the Tigers, S. Elilan said. Three civilians were also wounded in the attack, according to Mr. Elilan.

SL Navy attacks fishermen in the seas off Mullaithivu

0Dvora Fast Attack Crafts of Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Thursday early morning attacked fishing vessels off Mullaithivu coast in Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled territory. One fisherman, a tsunami surviver, escaped narrowly from the attack, but lost his Don Bosco gifted boat and nets. The fishermen who had gone for fishing in 10 boats at 3:30 a.m. were attacked by the SLN FACs around 6:30 a.m. in the morning. Ten boats managed to reach the shore before the Dvora gunboats approached the site, according to fishermen who escaped from the attack.

Man shot dead in Trinco, grenade attack in Mannar town

A Tamil civilian was shot dead by unidentified men at Chinabay, about 9 k.m. southwest of Trincomalee, along Kinniya-Trincomalee road, around 7 p.m., Wednesday. M.Sivakumar, 34, father of two, was shot dead at his home, police sources said. Meanwhile, a policeman and a civilian passer-by were injured when unidentified men lobbed a grenade at the police party in front of the public library building in Mannar town centre, around 9.35 a.m., Thursday, police sources in the north-western town said.

Colombo caused Mavilaru crisis - Elilan

0Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir jets, on Wednesday evening, bombed Mavilaru site in Vakarai, where protesting Tamil civilians had closed water supply running through LTTE controlled area towards the GoSL controlled area. The protesters were demanding Colombo not to abandon the project to supply drinking water to Tamil areas, according to S. Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee District political head. Truce monitors intervened and mediated between the Tigers and Colombo to a solution. In the meantime, the SLAF has bombed the area, making the crisis worse, charged Elilan Wednesday night. He said that LTTE has decided to reconsider the decision of lifting the water blockade.
