LTTE urges ICRC to restore opening days of Vavuniya entry point

0Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) Thursday discussed the operation of the only entry/exit point between the LTTE controlled Vanni and GoSL controlled Vavuniya town. LTTE officials said they had asked the ICRC to keep the Oamanthai checkpoint open for seven days a week to enable the people of Vanni to get provisions and other commodities uninterrupted.

Sampanthan, parliamentary group leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), has said that the decision by Sri Lanka's major donor country Japan, to continue economic aid to Sri Lanka, will soften the International pressure on the SL government to seek a political solution and strengthen Colombo to pursue the military option. Pointing out Sri Lanka President's categorical statement that there would be no change in his policy on a "unitary structure of a government" with the "district as the unit of devolution," Mr. Sampanthan dismissed the efforts of All Party Representatives Committee (APRC) as "no more than a mere pretense" to show some action is being taken towards political solution.

The fuel storage, located 8 km east of Ki'linochchi, belonged to the Chamber of Commerce of Private Businesses in Kilinochchi, they said.

A group of Sri Lanka Army soldiers who attempted to move towards Naavatku'lam in Liberation Tigers controlled territory in Vavuniya Mannar border Sunday morning were repulsed and 2 SLA soldiers were killed, LTTE's military spokesman told media. On Saturday, five days after the Tigers shot down a Sri Lankan jet fighter, the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) attacked Puthukkudiyiruppu in Mullaiththeevu district. Meanwhile, 3 Sea Tigers were killed in action Friday night, when a sea-fight broke off Pulmoaddai in the north-east coast. Both the LTTE and the Sri Lanka Navy claimed to have inflicted heavy damage on the other in the clash off Pulmoaddai seas.

0Liberation Tigers have repulsed a fresh offensive by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Vavuniya Mannar border Thursday morning, LTTE's Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan told media in Kilinochchi. 2 dead bodies of SLA soldiers were captured with arms and ammunition by the Tigers when the SLA offensive towards Paalmpiddi by more than 300 SLA troopers was thwarted, Mr. Ilanthirayan said. A Tiger fighter was killed in action.

0Two oil storages that supply fuel to Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombers were attacked by the Tamileelam Air Force, Tiger Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan told TamilNet. Oil and fuel storages in Kolonnawa and Muththuraajawala were attacked by the TAF at 1:50 a.m. Sunday and at 2:05 a.m. after Sri Lanka Air Force bombers attacked a suburb of Kilinochchi town in Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam administered territory, Mr. Ilanthirayan said adding that the Tiger bombers had safely returned to their airbase in Vanni.

SLAF bombs Kilinochchi suburb, civilians wounded

Rajapaksa delegates civil police powers to military

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has delegated civil powers hitherto discharged by the Police to the three armed forces, Sri Lanka Army (SLA), Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) by a recent Extra-Ordinary Gazette Notification of 1491/18 under Chapter 40 of the Public Security Ordinance dated April 06, 2007. Civil powers entrusted with the police throughout the whole island have been delegated to the military by Mr. Rajapaksa.
