Elilan blames SLA Intelligence for Vigneswaran slaying

0Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), in a statement issued Friday, blamed the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and its intelligence operatives for the slaying of Mr.V.Vigneswaran, President of the Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples' Forum (TPTDF), in an area declared high security zone, and surrounded by vital security installations of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Police, sources in Trincomalee said.

Mr.V.Vigneswaran, President of the Trincomalee District Tamil People's Forum (TDTPF)Mr.Vanniasingham Vigneswaran, President of the Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples' Forum (TDTPF) was shot dead Friday around 9.30 a.m. by an unidentified person when he was about to enter the main branch of the Bank of Ceylon (BoC) located along Inner Harbor Road between the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police and Trincomalee Harbor Police. The assassination of the key Tamil activist has taken place when the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) was about to announce the appointment of Mr. Vigneswaran as the national list Parliamentarian to fill the position held by Joseph Pararajasingham MP who was slain in Batticaloa on Christmas eve, TNA sources said.

LTTE cadre killed in Panichchankerni - Elilan

A Liberation Tigers cadre, Lt. Arulanantham, was killed Wednesday evening by artillery fire from Sri Lanka Army position in Mankerni, Trincomalee District Political Head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), S. Elilan, said in a letter to Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Thursday. The artillery fire was used by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) when the Tiger cadres counter attacked a group of 40 armed men who launched an attack on a LTTE sentry post in Panichchankerni. Two paramilitary cadres were wounded according to eyewitnesses in Kirimichchai on Wednesday.

Batticaloa students hoist Tamileelam flag in Annai Poopathy event

0Students and the staff of Manchanthoduvai Technical College in Batticaloa Thursday 9 a.m. hoisted Tamileelam flag at the college premises at the memorial event for Annai Poopathy, sources in Batticaloa said. Sri Lankan policemen rushed to the College and removed the flag around 11:30 a.m. The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), informed of the police action, arrived immediately to defuse the tension, and the commemoration continued till 1:00 p.m., sources said.

Families of abducted TRO staffers to meet Colombo press

The Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) and the families of seven abducted humanitarian workers, during the past 6 weeks, report no progress despite reduced exposure to media following the messages received through "third parties" that the abducted would be released if TRO and the families "kept quiet and did not to speak to the media," a press release from the TRO said Wednesday. The organisation has called for a press conference Thursday.

LTTE rejects SLN condition for fishing in Muttur East Sea

0The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Wednesday rejected Sri Lanka Navy's (SLN's) condition communicated throught the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) that fishermen in LTTE controlled Muttur east coastal villages should register their names and other details at the Muttur jetty located in the government controlled territory when they go to sea for fishing and on their return. Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the LTTE said that it will be an undue burden on the fishermen to travel more than five km to report their departure and return after fishing in shores near their village, sources said

He is here with a similar agenda to divide the country," the Propaganda Secretary of the JVP, Wimal Weerawanse, addressing a press conference organised by the extremist Patriotic National Movement in Colombo said Wednesday. He also criticized the outgoing Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, Mr. Hagrup Haukland.

Mental Health Unit in Kalmunai hospital opened

SLA arrests five family members in Vadamaradchy

Several hundred Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers cordoned and searched Vadamaradchy areas close to the High Security Zone (HSZ) around 1st, 2nd and 3rd cross streets in Point Pedro Sunday early morning between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. and arrested five members of the same family and a boarding student, accusing them of hiding arms, sources in Point Pedro said.
