Time bomb blast injures a soldier

Civilians caught in mine blast

Two civilians, K.Sreetharan (22), and his brother K.Karunakaran (18), were killed yesterday in an explosion in Kanakapuram in Kilinochchi, the town which was recently captured by the Liberation Tigers. It is believed either a mine or a booby-trap, left behind by the army, might have caused the explosion.

Official vehicle hijacked

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) hijacked the official vehicle of the Divisional Secretary (DS) of Kaluwanchikudy, at Kaluthavalai, 15 km south of Batticaloa, on Thursday around 8:45 a.m. and transported it across the lagoon in a makeshift ferry made by fastening two rafts, said Sri Lankan police.

Mass graves found - paper

Between 300 and 400 of the 700 civilians who were reported missing soon after the Sri Lankan government forces took control of the Jaffna peninsula three years ago, are buried in the paddy fields surrounding the main road near Chemmani checkpoint said this week's issue of Yukthiya, a Sinhala weekly. The paper has also published a map of the area, marking the location where the bodies are buried.
