AG withdraws PTA cases against two Tamil youths

92,000 IDPs yet to return to Valigamam north HSZ

Of more than one hundred thousand internally displaced (IDP) Tamil people from Valigamam north since 1987, only about 8,838 persons from four hundred and sixteen families were allowed to return to their homes. Around ninety two thousand IDPs are yet to return to Valigamam north, which is designated as HSZ, Jaffna district secretariat sources said.

Negotiating Tamil sovereignty

“Tamils have only had very compelling political and moral reasons for not acceding their sovereignty to the Sri Lankan state since Britain gave independence to this island. Therefore no road map to peace in Sri Lanka should be allowed to compromise the Tamil people’s sovereign and inalienable right to decide their political status in the land of their forebears," said Mr. Selvam Adaikalanathan, Tamil National Alliance MP for Vanni, reacting Friday to suggestions that the Liberation Tigers should agree to a peace road map in return for workable interim administration for the northeast.

Advanced Technology Institute to open in Kilinochchi

Jaffna fisheries sector condemns sinking of LTTE vessel

The Northern Province Fishermen's Co-operative Societies Union (NPFCSU) Tuesday condemned the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) for destroying the LTTE oil tanker in the international waters. "All peace loving citizens who are working to achieve lasting political solution to the conflict would not condone such acts," said the NPFCSU in a statement released Tuesday, sources said.
