Four Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were injured in two separate attacks in Jaffna peninsula, Saturday evening. Three Soldiers were injured in a grenade attack in Kodikamam town, around 7:30 p.m.. Another soldier was injured by sniper fire near SLA's Forward Defence Line (FDL) near Muhamalai, military sources said.

Claymore blast kills SLA trooper, civilians injured in retaliation

A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was killed in a claymore explosion targetted at the SLA road clearing patrol along Jaffna-Kankesanthurai road near Jaffna Hindu College at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, security sources in Jaffna said. Five civilians were injured when the SLA troopers opened fire indiscriminately and assulted pedestrians following the explosion.

Youth shot dead, two injured in Jaffna

Unidentified men riding a motobike shot and killed a youth at Punnalaikadduvan south, around 6 p.m., Tuesday, sources in Jaffna said. Two others were seriously injured in the shooting. Local residents blamed the paramilitary operatives collaborating with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) for the shooting. Residents said the SLA soldiers were searching for the three youths and that the three had been assaulted by Sri Lanka Armed forces earlier.

SLA troopers kill two civilians following grenade attack

Contrary to claims by Sri Lanka Military sources that Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers shot dead two LTTE cadres in Urumpirai after a grenade attack on the SLA sentry at 3.00 p.m Tuesday, investigations conducted at the scene, the same night by Additional Magistrate Mr. Srinithi Nandasekeran revealed that the two men killed were innocent civilians, legal sources said.

The arrested four have been transferred to the Vavuniya Police Sunday afternoon after the relatives complained to the parliamentarian who intervened on their behalf.

Traffic through A9 at Messalai was blocked and a cordon and search operation was launched by the SLA troopers.

Man killed in SLA gunfire after grenade attack in Gurunagar

A man believed to be a local resident was killed when Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers opened fire indiscriminately after two unknown assailants hurled a hand grenade into the SLA sentry located near St.Patricks College junction in Gurunagar Jaffna at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, sources in Jaffna said. The body is lying 50 meters from the sentry point and has not been identified. The alleged assailants escaped after throwing the grenade, according to sources.

SLA soldiers gun down MPCS branch manager in Mannar

The Manager of Manthai South Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society (MPCS) branch in Uyilankulam, was gunned down by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers at Manatkulam Junction, 14 km southeast of Mannar town, while he was returning home. Police said that the MPCS manager was hit when SLA troopers opened fire after a grenade attack on the checkpost. The incident took place around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

The TRO field-officer was blind-folded, taken inside an army bunker located within the premises of a SLA mini-camp at Thaavalai Iyatalai area, and was assaulted, according to a complaint made by the TRO's District Office with the Human Rights Commission in the northern peninsula.

Claymore mine hits SLA convoy, 3 killed, 11 wounded

A Sri Lanka Army Captain, a Lieutenant and a Lance Corporal were killed and 11 other troopers wounded when a bus carrying the troopers was ambushed with a Claymore mine near Maruthanarmadam Junction, 8.5 km northeast of Jaffna town at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday. Five of the eleven SLA troopers wounded in the ambush, were in serious condition, SLA sources said. The soldiers opened fire indiscriminately for fifteen minutes and beat up the civilians in the area after the attack. Three civilians were rushed to Jaffna hospital, residents said.
