Independence day massacre in Killinochchi remembered

TNA slams NE Governor’s visit to Vavuniya

0Tamil National Alliance Wednesday boycotted a meeting with Governor of the Northeast Province, Mr. Tyronne Fernando, at the Vavuniya district secretariat in protest against what the TNA described as “gross discrimination by the Sri Lankan state in delivering Tsunami aid to Tamil and Muslim areas affected by the disaster”. At the meeting, Government Agents for Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu informed the Governor that no heavy machinery for clearing Tsunami destruction was sent to their districts.

2862 children orphaned in NorthEast due to tsunami

About 2862 children have been orphaned in the northeast province due to December 26 tsunami, states Ms N.R.Ranjini, Director, Provincial Department of Social Services and Child Care, in a report sent to the Chairman of the National Child Protection Authority Tuesday, sources said.

WHO aids CHC with medical supplies towards relief efforts

0The Centre for Health Care (CHC), an NGO based in Kilinochchi, said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has come forward with donations of medical supplies to CHC relief efforts towards the Tsunami affected victims on Saturday. Dr. Kan Tun, the WHO Representative to Sri Lanka, presenting the donations to representatives of CHC Saturday at the CHC Head office in Kilinochchi has assured CHC that the WHO would consider aiding the training programme for psycho-social counsellors conducted by the centre, sources in Kilinochchi told TamilNet.

Eastern LTTE Commanders in Kilinochchi to consult with Pirapaharan

National Day of Mourning observed in NorthEast

"Colombo will mislead the world on aid distribution"- Kilinochchi paper

0The Tamil daily Eelanatham, published in Killinochchi, warned in its Sunday editorial that Chandrika Kumaratunge's government will again mislead the world on distribution of the aid received for tsunami relief. The paper called on the donors to also set up mechanisms and procedures to ensure an equitable distribution of aid to all those affected, among them two thirds are from the NorthEast of Sri Lanka.

Norwegian Ministers visit to Kilinochchi delayed

Thamilchelvan Saturday and expressed condolences and solidarity to the Tamil people affected by the tsunami on behalf of the UN Secretary General, sources said. Urging the UN not to allow political considerations to deter its participation in the rebuilding efforts in the Tamil homeland, Mr. Thamilchelvan told UN Envoy that the Sri Lanka government has "acted in bad faith" by bringing the military into the humanitarian equation.

SLMM head witnesses army harassing Elilan

0Monitors of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) led by their head Major General (Retd) Trond Furuhovde personally came to the rescue of LTTE Trincomalee district political head Mr.S.Elilan when the latter was stopped by the Sri Lanka military police at Kaddaiparichchan army camp Thursday around noon for about thirty minutes for failing to get down from his vehicle and showed his identity and his baggage at the checkpoint. This incident took place after about one hour Mr.Elilan complained to SLMM head about the harassment by army during the talks SLMM head held with LTTE Trincomalee district military commander Colonel Sornam, sources said.
