Two tamil policemen arrested

Sources in Jaffna said that a massive explosion this morning at the Jaffna Municipal council office had killed 18 people including senior members of the Sri Lankan security forces. The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) confirmed that Jaffna town commander, Brigadier Susantha Mendis and his Principal Staff Officer (PSO), Captain Ramanayaka, were killed in the blast.

Despite the Sri Lankan Department of Inland Revenue having regional offices in Jaffna and Batticaloa, people living in nearby Mannar, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Trincomalee districts of the Northeast Province have to deal with the Department through its regional office in Anurdhapura which is in the North Central Province, said Joseph Pararjasingham, MP (Tamil United Liberation Front - Batticaloa District) in Parliament on Wednesday.
