The occupying Sinhala military has transformed the northernmost point of the country of Eezham Tamils into a military-operated tourist attraction for Sinhala tourists from the South. It was also making a mockery of the ‘unity in diversity’ slogan while in practice demonstrating the attitude of transforming everything into ‘Sinhala uniformity’ across the island from the southernmost Dondra point in the Sinhala South to Chakkoadai cape in the Tamil North. The Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council, Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, is currently having the responsibility of tourism ministry in the democratically elected Northern Provincial Council.

SL military enlists 50 Tamils for slave work in military-run farms in Jaffna

Victimised Tamil women from East exposed to nightmare on Valentine's Day in Colombo

A Colombo-based NGO, known as Families of the Disappeared (FoD), was inviting 30 Tamil women from the East on Valentine's Day to Western Province to narrate their ‘love stories’ with their husbands, whom they later lost due to enforced disappearances. It was shocking that the personalities involved in the outfit, known to be making money on the plight of Tamil victims, would go to this level of ‘Human Rights’ exploitation, commented Mrs Amalanayaki Amalaraj, the chairperson of the organisation for enforced-disappeared in Batticaloa district. She characterised the stage event of traumatic exposure as psychological and cultural ‘torture’. There is no point in blaming the arrows while the real archers operating the Colombo-centric paradigm sustaining the exploitation, commented informed sections of Tamil activists in Batticaloa.

Three Saiva temples vandalized in Mannaar

Three Saiva temples have been vandalized in Mannaar following the civic elections and a day before the Saiva religious day of Maha Shivaratri. One of the places of worship, Lingkeasvarar temple, is located on the left side of Mannaar - Thalai-mannaar Road and is situated near the St.Xavier's Boys' College. The Lingkam statue at the temple was fully destroyed Tuesday night. The other two temples are located very close to two Sinhala military bases in the district. Although various suspicions are being raised, the residents are of opinion that the vandalization would not have been possible without the culprits having a close rapport with the occupying military establishment.

US naval engagement with Colombo triggers genocidal Sinhalicisation of Tamil heritage

The project, which follows militarisation of Champoor, is aimed at Sinhalicising the entire Champoor region through evoking 'foremost place to Buddhism' clause in the unitary constitution of genocidal Sri Lanka. The move has been triggered by the SL Navy, which is being groomed by the U.S. Pacific Command under the notion of 'military-to-military' engagement. The USA is engaged in promoting the genocidal military of Sri Lanka with a marine training programme in Trincomalee.

Mr Sirisena was visiting Jaffna for election campaign on Monday. The families of enforced disappeared have been demanding the International Community to trace what had happened to those who were handed over to the SL military in Mullaiththeevu and in Vavuniyaa after the occupying SL military instructed the families of all LTTE members to hand over the surviving at the end of genocidal onslaught in May 2009.

They didn't impose upon us any major political or economic change disturbing the parity that prevailed among the ethnic identities. It was the colonial British, since they seized the control of the island in 1796 and enforced a single administrative unit in 1833, who were behind the political reforms starting from Colebrooke-Cameron commission disturbing the parity between the ethnic identities in the island. The British were the ones who brought the constitutional discourse of unitary character and they should bear the responsibility for creating conditions for the annihilation of Tamils as a nation in the island, commented Jaffna based Tamil political analyst S.A. Tamils have no freedom in the island: Justice Wigneswaran

Wigneswaran, in his capacity as the co-chairman of Tamil Peoples’ Council, on Saturday explained in a moderately worded statement why Tamils are boycotting or abstaining from the so-called ‘Independence’ Day celebrations while genocidal Sri Lanka is marking 70 years since February 04, 1948 on Sunday. Justice Wigneswaran was still harping on the outdated paradigm of ‘devolution of power under a Federal constitution’ and was failing point out that the root cause to the conflict was the British-introduced constitutional discourse in the island, which was neglecting the parity of status to Eezham Tamils as a nation. However, he was bold enough to issue a statement noting “celebration of Independence from the Britishers has lost its significance due to our coming under the domination and hegemony of the Sinhalese,” while being the chief minister of the NPC.

UNP wants to erect 1000 Sinhala-Buddhist temples in occupied Tamil country

The UNP of the ruling Yahapalanaya alliance, particularly SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, has recently gone on record vowing to erect 1,000 Buddhist temples in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils in the North-East of the island. The agenda is also mentioned in the manifesto of UNP in the run-up to the local elections. The UNP claims as it has managed to allocate 500 million rupees to the programme. The propaganda waged by the UNP and the SLFP in Vavuniyaa has been centred around the theme of SL State sponsorship to Sinhala-Buddhisication of Vavuniyaa and the North. The construction of 1,000 locations for Sinhalicisation in the North-East project is being termed as a ‘reconciliation project’.

37 fisher families in Batticaloa north vow to fight for their land rights

37 of 44 Tamil fisher families from Murungkaiyadi-munai village in Koa'ra'laip-pattu North (Vaakarai) in Batticaloa district were refusing to put their signatures on empty papers in 2008 when the military commander of 233 Brigade in Vaakarai was threatening them to do so and was demanding the official papers of their land ownership to be handed over to the SL military. Only 7 families succumbed to the pressure. After 10 years, these seven families have received an official letter from the SL authorities in January 2018 that they were being provided with alternative lands. The 37 families, who have been refusing to yield to the military threat, are enraged by the attitude of occupying Colombo. They are set to file a legal suit against the SL State, informed sources told TamilNet.

Up-country origin Tamils most affected among uprooted in Mannaar

166 families, most of them poverty-stricken Tamils of Up-country origin, who lived with self-respect in Vanni until 1996 doing farming after they ended their centuries old plantation life after state-sponsored pogroms against Tamils in the island in 1977 and 1983, are now again transformed into people doing menial work in the local fishing industry in Peasaalai, Mannaar. The families are living at Chi'ruth-thoappu village which is located on Mannaar-Thalaimannaar Road as they had lost their lands and farms in Vanni to occupying SL military. The families displaced to Mannaar in 1996 and were residing in an open refugee camp operated with the support of UNHCR at that time. While majority of the uprooted people had vacated from the camp, 166 families were unable to resettle due to the war and as their original lands in Vanni were being seized by the occupying Sinhala military.

Sinhala colony schemed with expansion of Buddha temple at Punaa'nai, Batticaloa

A small worship place with a Buddha statue, which was left behind by the occupying Army of genocidal Sri Lanka in 2016, has now been expanded into a big Buddhist temple establishment at 121st Mile Post on Colombo - Batticaloa Road in Punaa'nai East in Koa'ra'laip-pattu North (Vaakarai) division. The expansion has taken place in an accelerated phase in December 2017. The jungle area without any civilian settlement has been selected for Sinhala colonisation and the Buddhist vihara establishment has become the anchoring point, Tamil civil sources in Batticaloa North said. In the meantime, more than 150 Sinhala families have been settled near Punaa'nai Railway station three years ago. The settlement near the railway station was also commenced with the establishment of a similar Buddhist vihara.

Karuna paramilitary appropriates pastureland in Paduvaan-karai for electoral exploitation

Vinyagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna, a paramilitary leader who has been collaborating with the Rajapaksa regime in the past, is again deploying violence and various intimidations, now against a section of dairy farmers from Chiththaa'ndi in Batticaloa district. In an attempt to woo voters for his political party from his native village of Kiraan, he is grabbing public and forest lands to convert these into agricultural lands for farmers, who had distanced from him since his betrayal to the Tamil cause in 2004. Paramilitary personnel carrying weapons have shot and killed cows belonging to Chiththaa'ndi farmers who are using the disputed area as pastureland for their cattle. 200 acres of lands have already been seized at Paalaik-kaaddu-veddai, which is situated close to Mayilaththamadu in Koa'ra'laip-pattu South division.

Kumpu'rup-piddi, a traditional coastal Tamil village with findings of pre-Christian pottery sites, probably from protohistoric period, has been subjected to systematic Sinhala Buddhicisation as well as corporate exploitation by the occupying Sinhala State, especially after the genocidal war on Vanni in 2009.

Ultimately, the SL military has seized the control of the entire market in the Tamil homeland from farming to construction, civil officials in Jaffna said. On the one hand, the unitary SL State is suppressing the Northern Provincial Council without allocating required funds for necessary development and rehabilitation work of the war-affected province, but on the other hand, it is waging a propaganda against the NPC as being inefficient, they further commented.

Sinhala Air Force, Navy compete with occupying Army in seizing Tamil lands in Vanni

The occupying Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) is deploying at least 16,720 acres of public lands in Vanni, which have earlier been taken over by the Forest Department of genocidal Sri Lanka. The SLAF controls 8,500 acres of lands in Ampa-kaamam, 3,500 acres from Karippadda-mu'rippu to Ira'nai-madu and 2,200 acres in Keappaa-pulavu, where uprooted Tamil villagers are demanding de-militarisation and proper resettlement. In the meantime, The SL Navy base known as ‘SLNS Gotabaya’, which comes under the so-called Eastern Naval Area (ENA), has been officially allocated with 671 acres despite repeated protests from private land owners. The lands being allocated to SLNS Gotabhaya in Mu'l'livaaykkaal East also contains crucial evidences and traces of genocidal onslaught against Eezham Tamils in 2009 where the final onslaught took place in May 2009.

Conduct of SL Judiciary exposed in Koonith-theevu temple dispute

Another stupa erected at controversial Buddhist vihara in Kokku'laay

Sri Thissapura Gunarathna Thero, an extremist Sinhala Buddhist monk, who has been constructing a controversial Buddhist vihara establishment at the private lands of Eezham Tamils in the strategic Kokku'laay, which links the Northern and Eastern provinces, has put up another Buddhist stupa at the locality in recent weeks, Tamil officials at Karai-thu'raip-pattu division said. The monk is fully assisted by Sinhala soldiers who are deployed in civil clothes. Despite repeated complaints and interim orders coming from local and provincial authorities, the monk is continuing the construction with the backing of Colombo government, occupying Sinhala military and the extremist Buddhist Power Force (BBS). Mr Manivannathas, the Tamil owner of the land has once again sought help from the public to stop the construction work, but says no-one is coming forward to take up his case.
