VVT killing inquiry begins

The inquiry into the killing of two Tamil youths in Valvettithurai (VVT) during Heroes Day celebrations commenced before the Point Pedro Magistrate Mr.K.Ariyanayagam Wednesday, legal sources said. VVT Police led the evidence of two eyewitnesses to the incident where unidentified gunmen came in a motorbike and fired into a group of men playing soccer in VVT Chidambara College grounds killing two youths.

Grenades thrown at Jaffna PLOTE office

Unidentified persons Wednesday night threw two grenades at the Peoples Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) office building located in front of Jaffna Teaching Hospital inside the High Security Zone in the center of Jaffna town. First grenade was thrown at about 8.55 a.m and the second around 9.15 p.m., Jaffna Police said.

Jaffna High Court Judge Mr.K.P.S.Varatharajah Tuesday gave a final date to Lance Corporal Somaretna Rajapakse to file his objections in the six Habeas Corpus applications in which he and two other army officers were cited as respondents by six petitioners that their sons disappeared after the arrest by the Sri Lanka Army in Ariyalai-Chemmani areas in the Jaffna town during 1997-1997 period, legal sources said.

SC reserves order on Bindunuwewa massacre appeal

Missing Jaffna youths remanded in Welikada

Confused reports emerged Saturday about the reported missing of seven Jaffna Tamil youths who went to Colombo in a vehicle last week to receive a relative who was scheduled to return from abroad. Meanwhile parents of these youths have complained to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) to take steps to trace their sons in Colombo, civil sources said.
