GAs, LTTE, Harim Peiris meet to discuss North rehabilitation

0Mr.Harim Peiris, Advisor to Sri Lanka's President on the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction and Reconciliation of the North East, Wednesday held a conference in the circuit bungalow of the Vavuniya district secretariat with the Government Agents of the districts of Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Mannar and Vavuniya and political activists of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on the proposed rehabilitation and reconstruction activities to be undertaken in the northern province, sources said.

Balasingham arrives in Kilinochchi for consultations

Mr. Balasingham with Col. Soosai and Mr. ThamilchelvanPolitical advisor of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. Anton Balasingham, arrived in Kilinochchi Tuesday morning around 11 in a Sri Lankan Air Force Helicopter. He was accompanied by his wife Ms. Adele Balasingham. Mr. Balasingham was welcomed by Col. Soosai, Commander of the Sea Tigers and Mr. S. P Thamilchelvan, head of the LTTE’s political division. He will hold consultations with the leader of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. Velupillai Pirapaharan regarding the current state of the peace process in Sri Lanka, LTTE officials said.

0Sri Lanka Cricket Board has decided to construct playgrounds in Killinochchi and Jaffna peninsula at an estimated cost of 5 million rupees to develop cricket in the north, according to Sri Lanka's cricket star Mr.Muttiah Muralitharan. "Sri Lanka Cricket Board has requested the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for approval to implement the project," he said addressing a press conference Monday evening at the UNHCR office in Jaffna after a day tour in the peninsula. Mr. Muralitharan visited the LTTE held Pooneryn area after the press meet.

Over 3000 graduates take part in job training

Vavuniya hosts all island netball tournament

The function, scheduled to start at 9.30 a.m. began late sans the Sri Lankan national flag and anthem.

Tree planting day events held in NorthEast

0As a followup to International Environmental Day held earlier this year, Tree planting day events were held in Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Mannar Friday, sources said. With Rs 1M funding from UNDP and additional funds from the The Economic Consultancy House (TECH), 10,000 seedlings were distributed in each district to community organizations and schools.
