Two SLA troopers injured in mortar attack in Kiran

Two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were injured in a mortar attack on the Kiran camp by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Thursday between 5.30 a.m and 6.00 a.m, SLA sources from Kiran Bridge camp in Batticaloa district said. SLA added that they retailated with mortar fire on LTTE positions. However, LTTE sources in Batticaloa said that SLA had first attacked their positions forcing them the LTTE gunners to retaliate.

4 health officials wounded in deep penetration attack in Vanni

Two SLMM officials inspecting the blast site at Akkarayan.Four health officials of Tamileelam Health Service Mobile Medical Service were wounded when Sri Lanka Army Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) exploded a Claymore mine together with three explosives. A nurse and the driver of the vehicle were seriously wounded in the attack that took place at Akkarayan, 20 km from Kilinochchi around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Police officials in Kilinochchi said. Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) officials visited the attack site.

GoSL, LTTE delegations in Jevnaker, Norway

Norwegian officials would be meeting the parties separately, and possibly together, Norwegian International Development Minister Erik Solheim has told the Norwegian Television TV2 Wednesday.

Court orders inquiry into Muttur abduction

Muttur Magistrate, Mr.Manickavasagar Ganesharajah, Wednesday directed the Muttur Police to conduct inquiries into the abduction of Mr.Selvarajah Gajanathan, a Co-operative Development Officer, with the co-operation of public, legal sources said. Mr.Gajanathan was abducted by an unidentified person on June 1 evening when he went to facilitate the transfer of dry ration relief from Sri Lanka government controlled territory into LTTE held Muttur east through Kaddaiparichchan sentry point of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), sources said.

Kantalai Court orders release of Trinco co-op lorry, fuel

The Kantalai Magistrate Tuesday released the lorry and the fuel of the Trincomalee co-operative society which was seized by the Kantalai Police on May 26 when the lorry was on its way to Verugal co-operative society located in the LTTE held Eachchilampathu division. Officials of the Trincomalee co-operative society took charge of the lorry with the load of fuel. The Magistrate further allowed the driver and cleaner of the lorry on personal bail of fifty thousand rupees each, court sources said.

10 civilians killed, in SLA pressure mine attack

0Ten civilians, including three children, were killed and ten, including two infants aged 3 and 8 months, were wounded in a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) pressure mine explosion inside a Liberation Tigers controlled border village at Nedunkal in Vadamunai in Batticaloa around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Nine of the wounded were admitted to the Batticaloa hospital, medical sources said. Batticaloa District Political Head of the LTTE Daya Mohan said that Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers, who had moved beyond the Forward Defence Line of the LTTE, were behind the attack that has claimed the ten lives including three members of a family.

The delegation, invited by the Norwegian facilitator to the peace process in Sri Lanka, to discuss the future engagement of the truce monitors, will also have meetings with the LTTE's Constitutional Affairs Committee that played a key role in formulating the blueprint for the Interim Self-Governing Authority (ISGA), informed sources said.

Thileepan Hospitals serve Muttur displaced Tamils

EU ban, one-sided and counterproductive - Balasingham

Mr. Anton Balasingham, LTTE's Chief Negotiator and Political StrategistThe EU ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), is "extremely harsh, unfair, untimely and one-sided unlike the Donor Co-chairs declaration," LTTE’s Chief Negotiator and Political Ideologue, Mr. Anton Balasingham, has told the Colombo based weekly, The Sunday Times. It is a "misguided strategy," to assume that international proscriptions will "encourage" the penalised organisations to pursue the road maps and guidelines prescribed by the international actors, Mr. Balasingam said adding that the "anti-terrorist age," ban on the Tigers, ignoring the political context, historical background, was counterproductive and created serious obstacle to productive engagement.
