The main intention is to bring in poverty-stricken families of ‘Sinhala war heroes’ to occupy the country of Eezham Tamils through so-called ‘welfare settlements’ in the Tamil-speaking district. In the meantime, the SL military intelligence has been given sweeping powers as the topmost agency for terror surveillance on Eezham Tamils. The occupying SL Army has also gained wide powers of spearheading the continued structural genocide by controlling the affairs of resettlement under the guise of Sinhala soldiers engaging in ‘reconciliation’ housing schemes. Meanwhile, Tamil political prisoners in the prisons of genocidal Sri Lanka for more than 7 years have complained that Colombo was completely ignoring the release of Tamil Prisoners of War, especially those who have been detained since before May-2009. Full story >> [TamilNet, Sunday, 21 August 2016, 23:37 GMT]The occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka in Jaffna is attempting to nullify the demand for resettlement coming from the uprooted people of Valikaamam North who are languishing at 32 camps, by projecting the construction of houses at limestone quarry lands in Keerimalai/Maaviddapuram as a ‘reconciliation initiative’. Colombo is converting the project, which started off as a 100-houses scheme into a larger five-phased housing scheme and by ‘marketing’ it as ‘reconciliation’ and ‘affordable’ housing scheme for uprooted people. The ulterior motive of the deceptive Keerimalai housing scheme is to weaken the demands coming from uprooted Tamils to release their military occupied fertile lands in Valikaamam North. The five-phased project is targeting to lump together the uprooted people into a 47-acre area. Now, my husband is detained with 48 counts against him while all others have been released 6 years ago. Only one Sinhala lawyer was prepared to take up his case following the assistance provided by a legal organisation. But, now that assistance too has stopped,” the mother of three told TamilNet. The protest comes a week after SL Defence Secretary visiting the site and the SL military is scheming permanent seizure of the lands. The families said they decided to launch round-the-clock protest as their earlier protests were completely ignored by the SL regime in Colombo. In the meantime, Sinhala Army soldiers have been harassing the news reporters who went to cover the peaceful protest Sunday night. 62 families are demanding resettlement in the 23 acres of lands seized by the SL military at Paravip-paagnchaan. The Tamil POWs said their freedom should be based upon a political decision and a principled one. If SL President Maithiripala Sirisena was able to re-instate a former Chief Justice subjected to impeachment by Rajapaksa government and extend complete Presidential pardon acquitting former SL Commander Sarath Fonseka of all the charges, how could anyone defend the lack of political decision to free the Tamil political prisoners without subjecting them to prolonged imprisonment, a spokesperson of the Tamil POWs asked TamilNet over the phone. The Tamil prisoners have raised severe criticism against Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan and TNA Parliamentarian M. Sumanthiran. Despite repeated requests made to SL Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M.Swaminthan, the Colombo politician has not been able to relocate the Buddha statue away from the Saiva temple premises and release the occupied lands back to the Hindu temple, Tamil activists in Ki'linochchi said. Now, the occupying ‘Sri Lanka’ Army soldiers have been busily deployed to put up walls surrounding the Buddha statue and the construction is blocking the chariot-route of the Hindu temple, sparking off tension in the area. At the same time, the SL courts have acquitted Sinhala soldiers indicted in a 1996-massacre of Tamils. Recent findings have also revealed that the SL Police was behind the torture and the eventual murder of Tamil youth. All these reports bring Tamils back to the fundamental question whether the ‘Sri Lankan’ judicial system could ever be trusted in delivering justice, said Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam. All these have taken place, as there is a sense that the International Community – for geopolitical reasons – would rather have this government in power than the previous government, which had a different dispensation internationally, he said adding that the SL government is “so sure that the International Community would not do anything to question its actions.” Full story >> [TamilNet, Tuesday, 12 July 2016, 13:10 GMT]The commander of the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka in Jaffna has re-iterated the military diktat on Monday by going on record that there was no reduction in the camps or number of military troops in Jaffna. Claiming that there would be no such consideration of reducing the troops in 10 years in the future, Major General Mahesh Senanayake was also demonstrating that any resettlement of uprooted Eezham Tamils in the former ‘High Security Zone’ in Valikaamam North could only take place at the mercy of the Sinhala military. A few uprooted Tamil women and the Additional Government Agent of Jaffna were asked to be present in the ‘inauguration’ ceremony of the military-conceived, SL government-funded housing scheme for 100 families at a limestone quarry land near Maavidda-puram. The quarry lands belong to KKS Cement factory. The demograhic genocide is being spearheaded by Colombo’s Forest Department that comes under the direct supervision of SL President Maithiripala Sirisena, Divisional Secretariat officials in Kiraan told TamilNet. The calling operatives are threatening the GS officer stating that they would launch counter protests deploying some women against him with false accusations. In the meantime, the SL police officials visiting the injured GS officer to investigate the brutal assault have been politely urging the GS villager to ask his protesting colleagues to drop their protests. Kudumpimalai is situated 63 km northwest of Batticaloa city. On 01 June, Shanmugam Guru, the GS officer who was trying to investigate the exploitation was told by the armed persons in civil clothes that they belonged to SL military. When the GS officer asked to document their permit and identity, he was taken to nearby camp and brutally assaulted. The GS officer was told not to interfere in ‘military matters’. Now, a family has received death threat from ‘unknown’ persons. When the Tamil GS officer questioned them whether they were having permit to cut trees, the group responded that they belonged to SL military and that they were having permission to cut trees. The genocidal military and the State have transformed Vesak celebrations as ‘Sinhala Buddhist victory’ over Tamils after the 2009 onslaught. The added feature this time is the open and official endorsement given by New Delhi to the genocide gesture. In its over-enthusiasm to counter Tamils marking Mu'l'livaaykkaal Genocide Day on 18 May, the SL military advertised ‘very pompous celebrations’ of Vesak in Tamil newspapers, inviting the Tamils in Jaffna to take part in their celebrations. Recently, the SL Ministry of Buddha Sasana in Colombo has approved funds to construct four new Buddhist temples (pansala) and viharas in predominantly Tamil-speaking Thennai-maravadi and Pulmoaddai areas that come under the Kuchchave'li division, Tamil civil sources in Trinocmalee told TamilNet on Monday. In the meantime, several pansalas are to be constructed in the bordering largely Sinhala division of Morawewa, where two Tamil villages, Panku'lam and Nochchik-ku'lam, are being subjected to Sinhalicisation, the sources further said. However, the Parish Priest of the church and more than 100 villagers blocked the survey department officials, who were brought to the spot with SL Navy escort, news sources in Poonakari said. In addition to the protest, the public spontaneously mobilised making a written signature campaign against the militarisation. The SL military intelligence operatives and SL Navy sailors were taking photos of the journalists who were covering the protest and recording video of the protestors in a threatening manner, news sources further said. The landowners of 6 families and an Amman temple blocked SL Survey Department officials for the 4th time at Paraman-kiraay on Monday. The families, mostly dependent on animal farming or agriculture close to their temporary huts, live below the poverty line, and are among the poorest in Mannaar district. Their houses were either demolished or taken over by the occupying SL military and the notorious Special Task Force (STF) in February 1997 during the brutal military operation code named ‘Edibala’. The construction is proceeding despite repeated requests to find an alternative place from Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran and despite instructions from Mullaiththeevu District Secretariat to halt the construction till the dispute of private land, which has been occupied by the Sinhala extremist monk, is resolved. On Sunday, Ven Sri Thissapura Gunarathna Thero, the extremist monk was demonstrating his vow to continue with the construction when he spotted Tamil journalists taking video of the resumed construction work from a distance.
