Veteran Sea Tiger Lt.Colonel Maravan dies

Lt.Colonel Maravan (S.Stanislauss), a veteran cadre of the Sea Tigers division of the Liberation Tigers, passed away at the age of 68 at his residence in Mullaithivu on Saturday, and his body was brought to Jaffna Sunday afternoon through the Muhamalai army checkpoint for the people of the district to pay last respects, sources said.

Colombo continues to violate Tamils’ rights- Thamilchelvan

“We have established a system of government that upholds and protects the fundamental rights of our people in regions under our control in the northeast. Our judiciary and Police are committed a society based on the Rule of Law in which our people can enjoy their freedoms and pursue their interests with self respect. But in areas held by the Sri Lankan government its armed forces continue to violate the rights of the Tamil people," said Mr. S. P Thamilchelvan, head of the political wing of the Liberation Tigers addressing a meeting to mark International Human Rights Day in Kilinochchi Friday.

Concrete-block manufacturing facility opened in Kilinochchi

The opening ceremony of a factory that builds concrete blocks from cement was declared open in Kilinochchi Monday, sources from Vanni said. The effort was funded by The Economic Consultancy House (TECH) a Non-Governmental Non-Profit Sharing Organization registered with the Government of Sri Lanka.

Passing out parade for LTTE Special Forces held

0A passing out parade for Special Forces units of the Liberation Tigers that completed their courses at the LTTE's Military Training School was held on Monday, 6 December, in the Vanni, according to a statement from the LTTE media co-ordinating office in Kilinochchi. The leader of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. Velupillai Pirapaharan presented certificates and prizes to the units. He gave a talk on strategy, tactics and the challenges of modern warfare.

Floods inundate Pooneryn, Pachchilaipalli villages

Key villages affected in the West North coast of Vanni (click for a larger map)Torrential rain in Pachchillaipalli and Pooneryn divisions has submerged several settlements in water and severely affected life in several villages, Eelanaatham, a NorthEast Tamil daily, said quoting Kilinochchi Government Agent Mr Rasanayagam. Three hundred families living in Kachchaveli village have been surrounded by water and Pallai Pradeshya Sabha officials are organizing efforts to move the villagers to safety, the paper added.

Seminar on Dental Care held in Kilinochchi

TECH donates solar systems to educational institutions

Tamil Tigers will launch freedom struggle if peace talks are further delayed - LTTE leader

0The leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Mr Velupillai Pirapaharan, in his annual statement marking Heroes’ Day, cautioned the Sri Lanka government that his organisation would be compelled to launch the freedom struggle of the Tamil nation if peace talks were further delayed and the suffering of his people continued. In an urgent appeal the LTTE leader called upon the Government of Sri Lanka to resume the peace talks, without conditions, on the basis of the Interim Self-Governing Authority as proposed by his organisation.

New Media Institute to be built in Kilinochchi

Foundation stone for a new Media Technology Institute is to be laid in Ariviyal Nagar in Kilinochchi on Friday, 26 November, sources in Vanni said. LTTE wants UPFA to state its unified stand on peace talks

No new message from Sri Lanka President - Balasingham

Norwegian Foreign Minister begins talks with Pirapaharan

Norwegian Foreign Minister, Jan Peterson, began discussions with leader of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. Velupillai Pirapaharan, late on Thursday morning in Kilinochchi. The talks are expected to cover the current state of Sri Lanka’s peace process and efforts to further stabilize the ceasefire between the LTTE and Colombo. The LTTE leader was assisted by Mr. Balasingham at the discussions with the Norwegian Foreign Minister.
