Drivers detained as A9 accident kills two

Mr.Ponnuthurai Sivalinkam, 50, of Kalviyankadu, Nallur and Ms Soundaram, 68, of Jaffna were killed and five other commuters wounded in a road accident Friday afternoon around 2.30 p.m. near Murikandy in Killinochchi district in a passenger van - lorry head on collision, sources said.

No split in LTTE command - Balasingham

The Liberation Tigers’ Political Strategist and Chief Negotiator, Mr. Anton Balasingham, Friday dismissed Colombo-based press reports of a split in the senior leadership of the Liberation Tigers as "malicious speculation." Mr. Balasingham told TamilNet that Indian and Sri Lankan press reports that Sea Tiger Special Commander, Col. Soosai, had split from the LTTE were "baseless rumours intended to alarm and demoralise the Tamil people."

Resettlers receive houses built with World Bank funding

The delegation is expected hold discussions with legal and constitutional expert who formulated the Interim Self Government Authority proposals (ISGA), sources said. The team will also meet Government officials of several European countries during the tour.

Northern Muslims support talks based on ISGA
